Three people have been killed in a Saturday afternoon shooting in downtown Athens, authorities said.

The shooting happened about 2 p.m. at or near the Athens Community Theatre off Prince Avenue.

The University of Georgia sent a text alert to students saying that a UGA professor is a suspect in an off-campus shooting in the Prince Avenue area.

According to the alert, the suspect is George M. Zinkhan III, a professor in the Department of Marketing and Distribution.
Holy crap...I know exactly where this is... :csad:

A professor this time?

Evidently. Police are combing the whole city and county looking for him,.

I've called several friends who live closer to town than I, they're all ok thank the Lord. But so horrid that this has happened :csad:

I know everytime something like this happens, the gun rights people come out of the woodwork in defense, and while these instances are never the time or place, I find it somewhat suspect that so much **** is happening all at once.

so the shooter is still alive and hasn't taken his life yet?

It's bad enough that the students do this now we have the teachers taking down the kids? I just don't get people sometimes. :(

So do the gun control/gun ban advocates, so it all evens out.

This is just me sick & mad. What the heck is the world coming too?

This is the guy they're looking for...

But the problem after these things are the censors that come out and blame music, movies and video games. And I really wonder how they are going to spin this one to say it was violent video games that caused this.

A professor did it? :wow: Imagine if you were one of his students.

I'm glad he hasn't killed himself yet. Hopefully he'll be caught and have to face the consequences of his actions.

Kind of misleading title, since it happened in downtown Athens. But I hope they track the guy down and he gets what he deserves.

This just makes me sick...

Another idiot with a gun makes himself famous.

My thoughts are with the victims' families. But really... when is all this just going to stop?! When will we quit being animals?

*sigh*
And the daytime Emmy goes to.....Ongie for his performance in the Shooting at University of Georgia thread.
There's a city wide hunt going on for him.
I live in Atlanta, time to put on my gear and hunt some scum.

"Senseless" violence will never end, at least until the day there is no more life on this planet. This type of thing may not be "natural", but it does serve the purpose of population control. We are animals, and no amount of homo sapiens species superiority will change the fact that we're no different from them.

Also, we shouldn't and don't "just accept it". If we did, nobody would care or be searching for this guy right now. Crime happens all the time, but that doesn't make it acceptable, and that's why we have a system in place to punish criminals. The criminal justice industry is just like the medical industry, they're trying to put themselves out of business (or at least they should be, but that's a rant for another day), but the aspects of life that they target come from an bottomless pit, and we will never see the day when either crime or disease is abolished.

UGA's idiot president issued a statement..

“The University community is shocked and saddened at this tragic event. Our first thoughts are for safety of the university community and for prompt apprehension of the person responsible. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all those who have been affected.”
