Now that Palin has been found guilty of abusing her power over her firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan and her attempt to get trooper Wooten fired, should further action be taken?

Impeachment?

Perhaps Monegan has grounds to sue Palin?

If she's not guilty of a crime, I'd say nothing.

However, it seems like it would be well within the bounds of the AK legislature to begin impeachment proceedings against her and for Monegan to sue her. So I'd say both you're proposals are possible and if I were Monegan, I'd definitely sue. If I were in the AK leg., then I don't know--it would depend upon the specifics and my own constituents.

I'm inclined to say yes, but I'm gonna wait.

First you ought to stop using the term "found guilty," she hasn't been found guilty as she hasn't been tried for violating a law. A legaslative ethics committee simply stated she acted unethically.

Second, yes. Further action ought to be taken. The attorney general ought to look into if her actions are illegal under state law. If so, he should begin indictment procedures immeidietly.

Third, impeachment should only be on the table if this can be proven as either gross misconduct (which is subject to interpretation) or illegal (which I'm not sure about as I do not know Alaskan laws).

Fourth, he should absolutely sue her.

Didn't the report specifically state that there were other reasons to terminate the idiot BESIDES personal?

Yeah but personal reasons were a factor.

Norman, I'm afraid I have some bad news for you.

Sarah Palin is already married :(

The report stated personal reasons probably contributed.

I prefer it that way, I prefer my women the same way I like my coffee - liberal as sin.

The report is pretty conclusive that Palin abused her power.

Are you comfortable with Todd Palin running around doing her dirty work, applying pressure to get Wooten fired? Todd had WAAAAAAAY too much influence in Sarah's offices.

Todd is a Snowmobile Racing Champion - he is more qualified to be President than McCain.

They need to just treat her like they would anybody else. He ought to sue her and win, but I think its kind of a ridiculous thing to get serious trouble over.

I am out to defend Palin... but considering what is happening in the god damn world, I find it pretty ****ing hilarious barely anyone is calling for "action" against Alan Greenspan. But noooo... Palin is such a priority :whatever:

I say we get Greenspan, too. Good point.

P.S. - She's guilty. :oldrazz:

The thing is, I don't think he can win if he sues her. Even if the ethics committee ruled that she had a personal motive, they also ruled that there legitiment reasons for termination. If I fire someone, I dislike, but because they are unfit for the job, do they have grounds to sue me?

Mmmmm...I'm not so sure about that, Matt. I think he's got a case and I have a feeling we're going to find out if he can successfully sue her or not.

My guess is, in the next two weeks, they will settle outside of court. Palin must realize that the ethics committee ruling is damning and the safety commissioner must also realize that he was unfit for the job and the committee ruled that, which could hurt his case.

That said, Palin has a lot more to lose by this being dragged out through the election. My guess is she will cut him a nice, fat check with a no admission of guilt clause.

I don't think Moneghan will settle, to be honest. I get the sense that he might drag this out for the next month, trying to generate as much bad press for her over this as he possibly can, hoping to damage her election chances. Expect him to crop up on more and more talk shows and do more interviews in the MSM about this.

A six or seven figure check can soothe even the maddest of people.

Not that I am defending her...
But would this would have actually happened if she was not picked for the VP position.

Well, it probably would've been far easier to brush under the carpet...but an investigation was under way prior to her selection.

No. This is a non-issue at this point, though if she ever runs for another office in the future, her opponents will definitely bring this up to question her ethics.

Out of curiosity, who exactly is doing the investigating?

This investigation began long before she was 'chosen' as McCain's VP.

Out of curiosity, who exactly is doing the investigating?

"The bipartisan, Republican-dominated Legislative Council votes unanimously to investigate Monegan's firing. It hires former anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower to conduct the probe, sets an Oct. 31 deadline for a report, and picks stare Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Hollis French, a Democrat, to manage the inquiry."
