exactly- and whatever the intent (and it was obiivously NOT to insult the troops to anyone with half a brain who views the statement in context and without preconceived bias)- it WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN RECEIVED if the white house had not MADE IT NATIONAL NEWS.

Hell I saw the thing on TV when he freaking made the statement, I thought he was saying exactly how people interpreted it. Even he said it was "a botched joke".

If it was an obvious attack on Bush like my "Bush pretended to be a President this Halloween" statement in political science today it would not have been recieved any other way.

If it can be misconstrued, or seems like it could be offensive, guess what you don't have to say it. Haraldo Rivera (or however the hell you spell it) makes a living out of making an ass of himself, and I don't think his statements are intentional (like the infamous "so poor and so black"). Ya' know the classic phrase "think before you speak".
