Should Kerry apologize for his comments about the troops?

I think they should ask him to clarify his statement because that's kind of a dumb thing to say. It's a completely blanket statement.

I think what he's basically saying is that the poor and uneducated end up on the frontline in Iraq and that's basically true.

He should apologize for what he said, but I don't think he meant to say it. He obviously botched a joke that was meant to target Bush. He should just stay out of the limelight and keep his mouth shut until election season is over with. He's just giving the Republicans more fuel for their smear machine.

Hilarious and, sadly, true.
He should not apologize.

only if bush apologizes for starting the war in iraq, getting our young men and women killed for nothing..until then..... HELL NO

Totally agree with you

a nation of tissue-skinned pansies who quake in rage at any sign of colorful speech or coarse jesting and not only have their itty-bitty feel-goods bruised at the drop of a hat, they actively seek out dropping hats

Everybody effing knows that the army very frequently provides the only alternative for poor people, and what he said in no way suggests that the army is comprised of uneducated people.
There are plenty of educated people who CHOOSE to enlist, and there are hordes of uneducated, drifting people who "get stuck".

...as always.

This has nothing to do with Bush, truly, he (alledgedly)screwed up a joke and he should apologize TO THE TROOPS for getting it twisted!

It was in the same fashion as calling everybody against the war unpatriotic, if your in George W. Bush's war your stupid. I know that's not what he meant, but it could be misconstrude that way.

I saw that on the news yesterday and Kerry clarified that he was talking about Bush not doing his "homework" on Iraq and that being the reason the US is still in that place.

Before I judge, I'd like to hear the rest of what was said. It seems to be cut off and taken out of context. As a former soldier, I didn't take offence to what he said. I feel his comment was aimed at Bush and the mess he's made. But I'd still like to hear the next couple sentences he said.

In that case, Kerry should not apologize. The people who should apologize are the one who are spinning it into something it's not.

Why should he apologize to the troops when it wasn't about the troops? This is just another neo-con attempt to change the subject away from there piss poor record.:whatever:

I agree. I heard they've called the Halloween stores to order some more smoke machines, and they've just contacted Home Depot for some more mirrors.

Hmm, it depends on whatever political party you agree with the most. If you're a democrat, HELL no he shouldn't apologize. If you're a republican, HELL yes he should.

Just as if Bush had said something similar, dems would be up in arms over it just as republicans are about Kerry.

In other words - politics as usual.

He also mentioned: "It was a botched joke about the president and his people, why would a war veteran than fights for other veterans rights be bashing the troops?"

He should apologize for letting George Bush win.

Lazur's right here. He hit the nail on the head.

I think Kerry should just do a simple apology "Sorry I made a bad joke." End of story. Then the Republicans are still up in arms, well, then we'll see whose the better man.

Why he should apologize?

He was right.

Another bull**** non-issue taking up news time. I love that an entire nation *****es about politicians being fake and then when one says something genuine, no matter how hurtful they might find the truth to be, they're ready to burn him/her at the stake. You wonder why the politicians are so fake, it's cause they have to deal with us *******s all the time. It's like everyone complaining about attack ads. Who the **** cares if they're attacking each other in ads? You're smart people, act like it for ****s sake.

lazur posts as usual

Untrue. Believe it or not, I've heard Rush and Hannity, and in real life, countless Republicans take Bush to task, or demand some response from a fellow Republican who has screwed up.

I've also heard countless Democrats talking smack about DEm-Leaders, bemoaning lackluster candidates and pissed when Dean went loopy and said ******ed, inflammatory things.

Furthermore, I'm not a Democrat or a Republican, and I don't think he should apologize.

So, again, lazur posts as usual....trying to evade the fact that there's anything more to an opinion than rote adherence to some party line, dismissing any criticism of Bush as the ravings of a brainwashed Democrat who lacks the ability to intellectually analyze events and form independant opinions.

lazur as usual.

I do think Kerry is going about this terribly wrong.

What would be so bad about him saying something like:
I botched a joke and to all of the troops that I may have offended I'm sorry. I certainly didn't mean what I said to be about you.

Plain and simple no matter WHO said what Kerry said I can see it being taken as an insult by our troops. Of course he didn't mean what he said but he should apologize to those it offended.
