I know they're having a hell of time getting their oldies off the ground, but with the recent influx of Kara in the comics, she's slowly becoming pretty popular with joe average. If they casted it right and found someone that could manage, it'd be an interesting endeavor, to say the least.

I'd love to see Supergirl in a movie. Either, being introduced in a future Superman movie or just giving her her own. I love Kara. She's my favourite female superhero (after Diana, of course). :woot:

Not in a solo movie, no. Not now anyway.

However, I would like to see Kara set up if they do reboot Superman. Establish her existence early on, and she can be used in a later film. If people seem to like her, she could be given a solo movie.

I would like someone like Kristen Stewart, who actually looks like a typical high school age girl.

Kristen Stewart looks like a typical highschool age boy. They can cast better than her.

But I don't think Supergirl is good material for a solo film. She'll likely only work as supporting character in the Superman movies.

Yikes...glad I didn't go to your school.

Normally I woudn't be keen on the idea of a solo Supergirl film...UNLESS you could do it in a way that: 1) treats the character like an actual teenager with big red boots to fill instead of just a pair of breasts in a belly-shirt and mini-skirt (yeah, I'd redesign the costume - sue me); 2) takes advantage of established, familiar elements of the mythology that the character has been anchored to in ALL her different incarnations without being totally slavish to them; and 3) does this in a way that would enable you to get away with not having Superman in the picture.

Personally, if I were making a Supergirl movie NOW, I would have to very much treat it as a coming-of-age story about a teenager who has this awesome legacy thrust on her shoulders that she has to contend with and figure out how she's going to face up to it without losing her own identity in the process - she wouldn't be particularly looking forward to being known as "Superman's Cousin" because of all the pressure that that would entail. And being a teenager actually trying to use her powers for the benefit of all people, I would have her character arc mirror Clark's in S:TM in the regard that, as awkward as it was for Clark to repress his powers as a teenager, it would be as awkward for Kara to try to use them responsibly. And as far as Superman's absence, well, that's very simple: I would actually have the cajones to do the unthinkable and pitch to the audience that Superman died five years prior to the events of the film battling Doomsday in downtown Metropolis, and that his death so curtailed Kara's training (she would have been about 10 or 12 when he rescued her, preferably from the planet Argo) and shook her emotionally that she hasn't really gotten a good handle on her powers since and has been debating whether or not that's the course she really wants to take in life, knowing how much everyone loved Superman and how tightly people will hold her to that same standard, as it is human nature to do, so she doesn't really become Supergirl until well into the film when a situation arises *koff*Silver Banshee/Parasite team-up*koff* that prompts her to take action to protect the people she immediately cares about (as opposed to the larger picture of using her abilities on behalf of all humankind, but that is something she gradually has to pick up on over the course of the story, rather than have the convenience of being raised by a kindly Midwest farm couple).

She looks like a boy with long hair, shes a plain Jane; that's what she was a good fit for Twillight.

Definitely not Supergirl; though Supergirl is a pretty easy role to cast. There are plenty of hot blonde actresses in Hollywood.

I'm not interested in seeing some stupid bimbo reduce what could be a multi-dimensional character into some vapid nonsense.

Supergirl isn't very multi-dimensional but there are plenty of talented actresses who look the part and can act;

Evan Rachel Wood is a good example

Kristen Stewart doesnt resemble Supergirl at all.

I thought Laura Vandervoort did a decent job with this character but she can easily be topped.

This was her best asset:

Linda Danvers' version could make an interesting Supergirl movie with slight tweaking of Matrix origin.

No angel stuff, though.

I like ERW, but I don't see how she resembles the character any more. Kara has blond hair and blue eyes and looks like a young girl. Her face looks completely different depending on who draws her. Same with her chest size. Sometimes she looks like Pam Anderson, it's ridiculous.

Helen Slater had the look perfect. Stewart doesn't have it at all. She's a plain jane. She'll never be cast to play the 'beautiful girl' in any Hollywood film. ERW, on the other hand, would.

But in reality, all these actresses are too old for the role by the time Supergirl could ever appear in a Superman film.

It's probably really down to very young actresses like Taylor Momsen or younger at this point

Even so, I strongly doubt they'll ever introduce Supergirl into the Superman films; since Nolan isn't keen on sidekicks for the Batman franchaise and WB seems driven to copy TDK into all their other properties.

damn...I could stare at that girl FOREVER. I actually have this save on my PC. However, I digress...I think Supergirl should only be introduced in cinema as a supporting character in a superman film and then perhaps a spin-off movie.

Because Supergirl is only supergirl by her relation to Superman, remember what happened the last time they tried to make a supergirl movie without Christopher reeve? Without Superman's guidance she has no reason to be supergirl, imagine a Robin movie without Batman in a cameo or anything...lame.

Agreed.

Because Supergirl is only supergirl by her relation to Superman,
They don't have to go that route. Kara Zor-El isn't the only Supergirl who could work in live action.

Another option is for Kara to be in a Legion movie.

remember what happened the last time they tried to make a supergirl movie without Christopher reeve?

Christopher Reeve being in the movie wouldn't have saved it.

The movie didn't come close to Supergirl's potential IIRC.

Without Superman's guidance she has no reason to be supergirl,
imagine a Robin movie without Batman in a cameo or anything...lame.
That's simple to fix. It just depends on the Supergirl in question. The easiest Supergirl to step out of Superman's shadow would be Danvers'.

Superman doesn't need to appear much for it to work. Just have Linda being a fan with a presence in the background like the media, he could be a topic in conversation with people, she could have posters of him in her bedroom or school locker and cameo in the finale to congratulate her after she defeats the villain.

Danvers' fascination with Superman could influence Matrix to turn her into a female version of him when they merge.

One doing a Remake Supergirl movie you better be careful has can be. Supergirl is My second Favorite DC Superhero and I have always wanted a Descent Movie about Supergirl. However there are too many probablems you have to work around other wise it will be a repeat of the 80s and I don't want that to Happen to Kara again. That movie was so Awful, if i was force to watch it or Pokemon the movie 2, I would take the Pokemon movie. and again Supergirl is my favorite Female hero in DC comics.

1, they should only use the current supergirl has not to confuse people, and Kara Zor El is more intresting than the other verison and can hold an audiance better. personal I would use Kara Kent has the alter ego, since that is what is being done on every tv show and cartoon since the 90s to now.

2. Have a Villan from the comics, and FOR THE LOVE OF ALL HEROES NO WITCHS OR MAGIC. good villians, to use Live Wire, Metallo, Killer Frost, or Van Savage.

3. She is 16 in the comics, so she should be somewhat of a teenager in the movie, want to make her older find, but smallvillie only but her age by 3 years cause she is 19 in smallville. I would personal have her be in highschool but if they want her out of highschool they can do that.

4. She should either appear frist in a SUPERMAN movie or Superman should be in the frist 5 to 10 mineutes of her own flim explaining how she got to earth and he was the one who found her. where they want to make it be her ship landed in metroplites to try and go along with the comics sort of or that he found her when he looking for an astorid that was going to hit the earth. - sort of like the Superman Tas cartoon, yes I know he was searching the remains for krpyton but he already did that in the movies.

5. Kryptonight will be used in the flim.

if these 5 things were met than maybe, just maybe it might work. but that is ONE BIG MAYBE.

I think this should be the perfect Supergirl: Amber Heard

Yeah, I mentioned her in the DCU Casting thread; if they had a Supergirl film appearance right now she would work...

However, we probably won't see Supergirl onscreen for years and years; if we ever do at all.

No, SUPERGIRL shouldn't happen until they get SUPERMAN right. Why does every thread turn into a casting thread?

What do you have against casting threads?

Irrelevant. Not enough people read the comics to be confused.

If they use another Supergirl in a movie it'll be DC who changes her into the current character in the comics, so that fixes up any rare confused readers.

That's debatable.

The only reason she is more recognizable is because WB atcually uses her. Give that same treatment to Danvers and he should be able to do the same IMO.

The audience will find it easier relating to Danvers then Kara, too.

Of all the Kara's the Pre-Crisis and 90's animated versions would be the ebst to adapt. The current Kara would turn people off.

For Kara, sure.

After she debuts in Superman she could appear in Legion.

They don't need to do this at all with Danvers'.

5. Kryptonight will be used in the flim.

Why? The Superman movies and Smallville have made it over-exposed. I'd like to see villains use something else to hurt Krytonians.

if these 5 things were met than maybe, just maybe it might work. but that is ONE BIG MAYBE.

Everything's a maybe with adaptions. They just need the right people making it who have the proper talent, passion and budget.
