The Force Awakens Should the Sequel Trilogy bring back the Old Characters?

Should the Sequel Trilogy bring back the Old Characters?

  • Yes, they should bring back and use some of the old/classic characters

  • No, start fresh with a whole new set of characters

  • Maybe

  • Why are they even making more films?

I think it would be best that Luke makes an appearance as a council leader in the New Jedi Order. He can reference Han and Leia. Leia, who works in the senate of the New Republic and Han who has retired and Chewie who is off with his family.
I hope there is some reference to Luke being the most powerful Jedi of all time. He can be like a Yoda to the new Jedi hero. Only if it works of course, if not I'll be fine with a cameo. Han needs to still have some rogueish qualities & Leia as a senior government figure fits well.

OT did reference PT, but in passing for exposition. Like in A New Hope with Luke and Obi talking about Luke's dad. But it didn't play a factor into the ACTUAL story in A New Hope, just a brief backstory.

Obviously that's not really true. Because a the entire conflict of the OT stems directly from the consequences of the PT. You don't have the Republic being turned into an Empire and a Rebellion fighting the Empire without the events of the PT. While we had no specific details about the Clone Wars or the specifics about Anakin Skywalker's turn to the dark side... the entire conflict of the OT is reliant upon both those things.

Thats not an opinion thats just an example of how it makes no sense. Theres no opinion involved in saying that Obi-Wans story to Luke is completely unrelated to what actually happened.

Obi-Wan's story to Luke was complete BS from the get go. As revealed by Return of the Jedi.

Keep the droids. They should be the anchor to the OT and the PT. The ST needs new characters maybe a Skywalker offspring and less Jedi than the PT.

Droids and skywalker are must for the sequel trilogy

So here’s a question I’m sure a lot of people will be debating about until some official announcement is made regarding this topic, but do you guys think that recently announced “Sequel Trilogy” should bring back some of the old characters from the “Original Trilogy”?

Should these films still center around the Skywalker family and friends as far as fans and the general audiences are familiar with or should Disney and Lucas aspire to do something more by continuing the franchise without reusing any of the established characters from the film franchise, like beginning the story a few centuries after the events of “ROTJ”?

To me, Star Wars is centered around the Skywalkers. It wouldn't feel like Star Wars to me if they moved on from them.

I don't think Star Wars as a whole is centred on the Skywalkers. But any film that has Episode I- whatever, should revolve around them. If they made a completely separate trilogy, maybe based on Revan and Malak, I'd be fine with it, as long as it wasn't a numbered episode.

That has to be Luke's role. :jedi
As far as Han, I wouldn't mind him being already dead. He was my favorite character in ANH and ESB but I think his story is kind of told. Any more scenes with him and it'll be Kingdom of the Crystal Skull-y. Unless that's what they're going for.

This might be sounding superficial but if they do decide to bring the old main cast back even in limited roles do you think they should maybe motivate them to work out a bit or get into better shape?

I'm just thinking that a great jedi like luke would try to stay in shape in even later years.

It's a bit ironic that harrison is actually the oldest out of them but is in the best shape now.

It just seems like the magic would disappear a bit if we see luke not only older but like he's just let himself go.

I don't think it's superficial, I thought the same thing. Which is kind of why I don't think Leia should be in the film...

Fisher has been doing Jenny Craig commercials. She's slimmed down quite a bit. Her voice is just a whiskey and cigarettes voice. Hamill could slim down some, but let's face it... Jedi robes hide a good deal. If he's sitting in a Council chair they'll hide even more. It's not as if Old Ben Kenobi didn't have a bit of a belly. Just hard to tell with all those layers.

First of all by the prequels his story in Jedi is complete BS too. Either way thats not true, Obi-Wan explained he told Luke the truth, he just didn't tell him his father was Darth Vader.

I don't want to see the damned council in the new films. IMO jedi are so much cooler when they're loners. I don't want to see a lot of Jedi until Episode IX.

Star Wars are a series of movies that revolve around the Skywalkers. The EU of Star Wars definately does not, but given that this is continuing in a series they have to somewhat include Luke Skywalker at least.

I would imagine there are many Jedi at this point.(Otherwise what the heck has Luke been doing for the past 30 years!!!:wow:)

To what extent should Leia be shown as a jedi? One of the few threads left from ROTJ was the promise of Leia learning to use the Force.

My idea is that Luke tried to rebuild the order and has built the Jedi Academy but the tact of rebuilding the order single handedly was too much. All of his students either died or turned to the Dark Side, one of these fallen Jedi being Han and Leias Son.

Leia is estranged from Luke because she blames him for corrupting her son. Id like to see one of the heroes learning under luke and the others helping Leia and the gang rebuild the republic. In the end of the trilogy, Luke becomes one with the force and Leia and Lukes apprentice go on to teach the reformed order. The final shot should have the hero and Leia looking at the ghosts of Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Anakin, Yoda, and Luke, bringing the saga full circle.

With that hair color he's very Ewan McGregor Obi-wanish.

Hamill's known about the sequels for a year & is now starting to grow an Obi-Wan esque beard? [YT]Ssnw2GA657s[/YT]

Even if the sequels don't feature most of the original characters, I definitely think C-3PO & R2-D2 will reappear. Depending on how long after ROTJ this takes place Chewie could come back too, if they're retconning EU stuff then they'll definitely bring him back. He's too iconic to NOT appear in the sequels.

He's not sporting one now, here's a screenshot from the video I posted above.

What if Anakin (Hayden) is old Luke's force ghost? :p

Han and Leia's kid. Boom. There's your main character. He has the bad***ness of Han and the Jedi part from Leia. What more do you need?
