The Force Awakens Should the Sequel Trilogy bring back the Old Characters?

Should the Sequel Trilogy bring back the Old Characters?

  • Yes, they should bring back and use some of the old/classic characters

  • No, start fresh with a whole new set of characters

  • Maybe

  • Why are they even making more films?

All of this talk about the physical condition of the original trio is a bit interesting. If they move on with the story in the direction we all hope they will, I have no doubts that the original trio will do their best to look their best.

My idea is that Luke tried to rebuild the order and has built the Jedi Academy but the tact of rebuilding the order single handedly was too much. All of his students either died or turned to the Dark Side, one of these fallen Jedi being Han and Leias Son.

Leia is estranged from Luke because she blames him for corrupting her son. Id like to see one of the heroes learning under luke and the others helping Leia and the gang rebuild the republic. In the end of the trilogy, Luke becomes one with the force and Leia and Lukes apprentice go on to teach the reformed order. The final shot should have the hero and Leia looking at the ghosts of Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Anakin, Yoda, and Luke, bringing the saga full circle.

Terrible idea. Basically taking the worst elements of the EU(i.e. 5 or 6 of Luke's students turning to the dark side) and amplifying it to absolutely horrible proportions.

“You know, when I first did this, it was four trilogies,” Mark Hamill recalled in 2004, speaking of their conversation in 1976. “Twelve movies! Out on the desert, any time between setups… lots of free time. And George was talking about this whole thing… ‘Um, how’d you like to be in Episode IX?’ ‘When is that going to be?’ ‘2011.’ […] I said, ‘Well, what do you want me to do?’ He said, ‘You’ll just be like a cameo. You’ll be like Obi-Wan handing the lightsaber down to the next new hope.’”

:wow:

I'm going to assume that's changed since then, I think Luke will have a much bigger presence in the movie than just a cameo.

All of lucas's previous statements about what he will or won't do in the sequels should be taken with a grain of salt.

This is fully disney's undertaking now. While lucas is on as a "creative consultant" he's gonna have very little to no hands on influence. For all purposes he's pretty much retired from filmmaking.

My fondest wish is that they say "screw it let's integrate the EU fully" and take Crucible and Sword of the Jedi as the jumping off point. Luke is Grand Master of the new Jedi Order and our new protagonists are his son Ben and neice Jaina Solo and grandneice Allana Solo.

It would be kind of a slap in the face to not even ask Fisher, Hamill and Ford if they have interest. Ford is probably the only one that might decline since that's just how he is, but you never know.

Nothing a little make-up and the gym can't fix.

And maybe an Ob-Wan beard for good measure. Beards make everything better. Just ask Will Riker.

It needs to start fresh to get my interest. Keep the same rules, some of the old planets, etc.

I have no interest in treading old ground with rehashed characters, or the offsprings or cousins or other imitations of these previous characters. It makes the SW universe seem so small and so stale, I've generally checked out of caring about this franchise.

As part of the Skywalker Saga, with the numerals in the title, it should have Luke, Leia, Han, C-3PO, and R2-D2 for starters.

I'm not really fond of this idea. I have read some of the EU books (such as Thrawn's trilogy, Dark Horse Comic's Dark Empire, some Young Jedi Knights books, etc), but I didn't read the later books and imo those were quite confusing as heck. I also don't like what I heard about some of the later developments, such as the corruption of both Jacen & Anakin Solo and their subsequent deaths. And you're going to expect the audience to accept all of these stories and watch Ep. 7 that has all those EU events set up before it?

To me, Star Wars is centered around the Skywalkers. It wouldn't feel like Star Wars to me if they moved on from them.

Indeed, the Star Wars Saga is about the Skywalkers. However outside of this trilogy I don't mind Disney following different characters.

I don't think Star Wars as a whole is centred on the Skywalkers. But any film that has Episode I- whatever, should revolve around them. If they made a completely separate trilogy, maybe based on Revan and Malak, I'd be fine with it, as long as it wasn't a numbered episode.

Right, since these are more "Episodes" I think it needs to revolve around Skywalkers. But I would not be surprised to see films in different time periods and such.

That has to be Luke's role.

Indeed, Luke should be the new Yoda or Obi-Wan.

It would definitely be pee-my-pants worthy!

The OT heroes can't have families just because the audience hasn't seen every moment of their pregnancies and births and schooling and deaths? So VII should open with them coming out of hibernation, having not experienced anything for the past 30-40 years?

Every one is talking about Hamill, Ford, Fischer, etc... but what about Billy Dee's glorious return to the big screen?

I'd love Billy Dee to be involved. To be honest,he's the one I'm most worried about,appearence-wise.He's the oldest, and I'm not sure if he's in the best health.

Agree ::Force High-Five:: though I don't mind if its some alternate universe or something like that,to have characters from the original trilogy participating is just too confusing due to the EU in between them.. .

He's still acting here and there. I never knew he made an appearance on Lost.

If it was about their kids it would be making the universe feel too small, but the thing is Luke is now the last of the Jedi rebuilding the order, Leia/Han/Lando are important figures in rebuilding the Republic. If you think about it it's not that far fetched for some of the most important people in the Galaxy to get sucked into some kind of BS.

All they need to do is make the main characters not related to any of the old characters and just have them cross paths. Kind of like how Luke wasn't related to Obi-Wan or Yoda but it made sense how they met.

I still think having a kid stumble upon the Jedi Academy in ruins and bring Luke out of retirement to help him, would be great.
