I've been thinking a bit about and i think they should cure Speedy..
I mean so far the only thing they have done with her beeing HIV postitiv is they mention it a few times.. and nothing more..
Its the biggest thing about her and at the same time.. the least explored part of her..
So far i have counted only 3 times its been brought up twice in Green Arrow and once in Teen Titans..
3 times in 2 years .. now they did educate a few people about the diffrence between HIV and AIDS but thats all ..
Most people that clame they know a thing or two about her even know she is HIV positive..

Think about all the problems a HIV positive teenagegirl must have.. yet speedy has NO problems at all ..
i know i know her past might be the reson she is running singel and "never" even look at boys.. but still..

i think they had some fun and its time they cure her so they can explore a bit more of her personal life.. or keep her sick and explore a bit more of THAT!

what do YOU! (yes you with the glasses) think?

They won't cure her.

You'll notice in Comics that ALL mundane illnesses in comics are incurable.

So I suppose they should explore ALL her ISSUES as an HIV Teenager.

.
It's going to suck for her when she falls in love UNLESS her interest is invulnerable or immune to terrestrial illness or has an accellerated healing factor.

Hmmmn,...
Maybe 4 known in the DC universe,....(Single invulnerable males) I guess they need to create a DC version of WildChild or Sabertooth,....

No. They should bring up the fact that she has to take a lot of expensive medicine in order to not shift into full blown AIDS, but other than that, they shouldn't... it's just a reminder of how scared and uninformed DC editorial is and I think removing such a clear indicator would be bad for everyone, especialy if nothing is going to be done anyway.

Either that, or she should get full blown aids and die a "slow" painful graphic death over the course of the next year or so (which is only, like, a month in comic time).

who cares, its a second rate side kick to a second rate batman wannabe character.

Green Arrow stopped being a Batman wannabe character in the 60s. Stop holding onto the past.

pfft.
Whatever, hes bat-lite with a bow, and a little socialist thrown in to show just how much of a P***y he is.

oh! another thread that needs hijacking! i cant wait for darth and leaguer to get here...

Wow .. there is some one her who just cant stay on topic! AMAZING!

They kinda did that .. In thge Arc where she got the news she was Positive her doctor and ollie talked about the "Cocktail"... but then again.. that was the ONLY! time they talked about it ..

they did mention it while they were on the island too...

I disagree with both your points. The character shouldn't be about the illness. But at the same time, I feel that curing her miraculously would be a disservice to the rest of DCU populace. I think they already addressed her current state when they were training in the island and it's entirely plausible that alternate and natural medicines might extend her lifespan (maybe even improve her general quality of life).

People are weary of Winnick because he touches upon the gay and AIDS themes in almost everything he has written. I'm sure if they focus more on her illness there's gonna be even more backlash on him.

Your last 2 statements make no sense to me. You either focus on her personal life is she's cured or focus on her illness if she's sick? What, can't she have a personal life while she's sick? The way time moves in DC (unless they keep doing events where they skip one year and reveal what happened later) means that she'll be around for a long time.

yes.. that she was dooing fine.. that was it ..

might have been a bit confusing , but i want to see a bit mor focus on her personal life either she is sick or cured..
she is still a teenager.. they should have never taken her out of the Teen titans.. they could have explored all the problems of a HIV positive teenager there

Mia with HIV is away of trying to connect to possible readers who may have this as well IMO. They cannot get cured, and I dought reading a comic where a superhero eats a magic pill and gets cured, will make them feel any better about thier life. Mia with HIV is away of showing them, just becasue they have this disease, it does not mean they cannot do anything. Mia kicking butt as a superhero, Imo would give them hope, it shows them how they can still live a cool happy life even with HIV.

these days, if you have money (which ollie does) HIV/AIDS doesnt seem to be too much of a problem... just ask magic johnson

yeh thats the problem issent it.. but still if you miss nust 5-6 issues of GA and Teen Titans then you will have no idea that she is HIV positive, they rearly bring it up and her condition is NEVER anything but exelent (and using a lazarus pit is more plausible the a pill :P)

dude, people with HIV dont bring it up every issue... i mean every day... or week... if someone is doing ok with it then they probably wont talk much about it, no news is good news... if i had some sucky disease that i had under control, i wouldnt talk about it much unless i needed to, i wouldnt want to be known just for that... id want someone to know me for me and have the disease just be a footnote if that

they dont need to bring it up in every issue ..but throw inn a few situastions where she might have a problem due to her condition..
like a love intrest.. or something like that.. or just show her taking her meds once in a while.. they dont even need to mention it..

THATS my problem with it all .. she is beeing shown as a normal girl... uhh normal sidekick :P

hate to break it to you, but most people that have a disease like that thats under control want to be perceived and treated like they are normal

She gets a cure when the rest of the world gets one.

Personally I find that a world with Purple Healing Rays and people capable of saying "SDIA eb enog," I find it a bit unbelievable for Speedy to still have AIDS.

How about they start using her regularly again then we can talk.

and lets not forget the thing Supergirl sold to Batman..
so Batman can cure Speedy in a few minutes.. .. hell he even has a Lazarus Pit in the cave..
the only reson She still has HIV is so they can have their Token Aids character

How about they start using her regularly again then we can talk.
Read Green Arrow mutch? shes back in Star City and working..
in the current Arc she and Ollie have team up with Batdude to bring down Red Hood and Brick..

"Seeing Red" concludes as the Red Hood's ultimate goal is within reach. Will it be another corrupted sidekick? Green Arrow and Batman race to Speedy's rescue!"

Yeah, which part of regularly didn't you understand? She's shown up in 4 issues since OYL.

no she hassent.. shes been in 6 not counting this weeks issue (as its not out yet)

6 of 10 issent bad.. and all 6 was in a row (and one issue of Teen Titans)
But i really want her back in Teen Titans..

OK, you claim its only 3 times in GA. I have only read vol. 1-5 so I can't comment...yet. However, it is mentioned 3 times or more in TT. So, it is mentioned a lot. But I think it should be cured, but shouldn't. I mean, if they cure her, other HIV positive characters (if any?) would need to be cured immediately. Also, she is a role model to other kids, real kids that have HIV. (if they read comics) If they cured her like that...then what hope do kids in the real world have? But I also think she should be cured because..um..how will she ever get a boyfriend?
