Should they cure Speedy?

no she hassent.. shes been in 6 not counting this weeks issue (as its not out yet)

6 of 10 issent bad.. and all 6 was in a row (and one issue of Teen Titans)
But i really want her back in Teen Titans..

It is when you consider shes probably in about less than 20 pages over 6 issues overall. You can go ahead and count them.

the only reson She still has HIV is so they can have their Token Aids character

Uh yeah. Is it so wrong that the have a character with some ailment that makes her life a bit tougher? Seriously dude get over it. Sure their are characters that could heal her in a second but they choose not to because it would be insulting to both her fans and those living with the illness in real life.

I know I'm gonna get flak for this but maybe she chooses not to get cured until there is a cure available to all?

It seems like you kinda just want her to be cured so she can become the standard DC female complete with skimpy clothing and sexual romps abound.:woot:

And really, Ollie has money so Mia can live until shes 115 with HIV and be all good.

Personally I find that a world with Purple Healing Rays and people capable of saying "SDIA eb enog," I find it a bit unbelievable for Speedy to still have AIDS.

Same question I always ask about Babs Gordon. Sometimes you just gotta suspend your disbelief. I always like to imagine that these characters think about getting a magical cure but for their own different reasons decide not to.

ok then let me count..
In #64 shes on 1 page :P
In #65 shes on 12 pages
In #66 shes on 8 pages
In #67 shes on 10 Pages
In #68 shes on 5 pages
In #69 shes on 4 pages (Ollie is only on 8pages)
In #70 Shes on 10 pages

To me that adds up to 50 pages... but i must add that it was a quick count

Well just until they decide to kill her off, in a sad multiple part story. The cover to each issue will have all her friends around her as she lies weak and tired in a hospital bed.

 You're sad, really.

I have an awesome story in my head about Speedy killing Robin with AIDS. See, she gets boned by Robin. Are you following me. Then there's a double page spread of Robin looking in the mirror and seeing purple face splotches and then Batman cries. The end. Where's my Eisner

No, she shouldn't be cured. That's ridiculous.

The way Winick does it is just fine; bring it up once in a while to remind people, but not overwhelm the story with it.

And I think you're far, far, far understating the "only three times" that it's been brought up. The first time, in Green Arrow, there was an entire storyarc dedicated to it. It's practically ingrained as her origin as Speedy.

The second time, in Teen Titans, it was part of an intrinsic subplot about the secrets that the Titans keep from each other, and how they needed to be able to trust each other with these secrets or risk tearing each other down like the Justice League. Letting her friends know about her disease was a huge step for Mia, and a turning point for the rest of the Titans too.

The third time, on the island, Mia and Connor had a lengthy conversation about how it was progressing, and Mia expressed concern that she was experiencing a bunch of side effects from the drugs that she's taking.

I don't know about you, but those seem like pretty significant touch-on points to me. What more, exactly, do you need? For her to be obsessing about it every single issue?

oooooo winnick is gonna be mad! wasnt this one of his ideas for a batman/GA crossover?

I'd much rather read a GA or TT book where Mia's HIV is mentioned sparingly rather than have some halmark-esque where every issue deals with her struggle. I'm not opposed to an arc where she goes into recession. maybe even a magic johnson guest starring. but i think they are having a good balance of having it aware but not over whelming.

I don't know if they should or shouldn't,
Maybe if they did they could do it in a real conviluted way, like had something to do with clones, her death, being brought back, robots, aliens and so on, so that her being cured would be sort of reasonable and not the most outlandish thing to have happened in the comic.

I was just making a joke, but yeah, Winick probably considered it at one point. Except Mia slept with the female Robin from awhile ago. And it was televised on cable.

That...sort of sounds like the most outlandish thing to ever happen in comics:dry:.

Ya know, no one has ever made a fuss about Tony Starks heart condition back when he had it. Or Ultimate Tony Stark and his brain tumor.

I know it seems like tokenism to have a character contract a "popular disease", but I think it needs to be presented more, and can serve as a useful storytelling tool.

Sometimes it takes a uncurable disease for someone to take action. Sometimes you have to be faced with your own mortality to move in a positive direction.

Our lives are slowly ticking away, but when you have something like AIDs you worry more about what little time you have. Mias condition shouldn't be so because someone felt compelled to have a character with AIDs so that community would be represented. It should be seen as something that makes them a stronger character.

Maybe down the line Mia will take a turn for the worse and then we will see her at her most desperate, fierce and focused. Knowing that her number will be up soon she may go to great lengths to save others.

And on the topic of a miracle cure. Could the DCU wipe out AIDs, paralysis and cancer worldwide? Maybe. But when you put things under a microscope, you realize that it wouldn't be a very interesting world if the four horsemen were crushed under the bootheels of its super heroic saviors. Though I'm sure it would make an interesting story to see Mia offered a miracle cure, or Babs being offered a pair of robotic legs. It would truely speak of their heroism and perserverence (I can't spell that word, and too lazy to look it up) to turn down the help, or pass the opportunity to someone less fortunate. These heroes have learned to live with their ailments, while others should learn too, Babs and Mia are the selfless type that would put others before themselves.

I hope this puts some perspective on the matter. If not, oh well. Stay tuned for more posts from people who think this subject is funny.

pfft.
Whatever, hes bat-lite with a bow, and a little socialist thrown in to show just how much of a P***y he is.

Do me a favor and do one of the following:

1. Read Green Arrow: Quiver.
2. Never breed.

"The Longbow Hunters" is a much better portrait how Ollie is not Batman.

But I agree 100% with LibrarianThorne.
