I would really like for the "Japanese" characters in Wolverine 2 to actually speak in Japanese, at least for the most part with subtitles...instead of basically English throughout...no real need to "whiten" up the Japanese characters...Anyone else would prefer this...?

It would be nice, but it wouldn't break the movie for me. I doubt the general audiences will go for reading subtitles though. Perhaps they could have Japanese in the film but have the main players speak English instead of having characters speak English and claim they're speaking in Japanese. I wonder at what point movie Wolverine learned how to speak it though. They could have shown him learning Japanese to show off both languages but now that's not likely.

He does speak Japanese in that after-credits scene, so I'd imagine that would continue in the next film. I doubt it would be for most of the movie, though. That would drive most audiences crazy (although I'd be fine with it).

Yeh the general cinema going population would definitely not be OK with that. I would love it though, I think it would make the movie much more authentic and as a result, better.

A bit japanese here and there, a bit like 'The Last Samurai'. You know this is a film mainly for European/US audiences, so english has to remain dominant.

When they speak Japanese the actors should speak Japanese while being filmed, but afterwards the English dialog is dubbed over so the words don't match their lips. That's how you're supposed to speak Japanese in movies anyway.

Some Japanese here and there, in key scenes, to make it authentic.

Much like with "Inglourius Basterds", I would find differet languages in a blockbuster film very cool.

However, this is going to be a Fox-"Lets dumb everything down" movie so...oh well, would have been nice.

Can't really pin that one on Fox - most studios was be against a tentpole movie being mostly in subtitles, especially one who's previous films didn't use them.

I think it would be cool, but realistically...but it's not likely.

if ninja assassin has no Japanese speaking i doubt this will

My thought is this

Wolverine speaks English, He worked with Weapon X which seemed to have a number of characters Wade being one who could speak another language. Plus Wolverine had lived for a long time up until that point... fighting in such wars including Vietnam. I dont know weather Vienise and Japanise are the same language but i would imaging if this is the case Wolverine may no some phrases... But judging by his character he probably knows a couple. enough to form a few sentances...

Silver Samuri - is a business man who has contracts around the world. In my opinion he would speak both Japanise and English... plus a number of other languages.

Sunfire - is wealthly from what i remember. He knew the x-men in the comics so im gathering that he can speak both Japanise and English.

Cyber - being a weapon X subject he probably speaks two languages.

In my oppinion, we should see sort of 70% english in this film 30% in Japanise... as i think Wolverines scenes in the movie will only have one or two that would be in local before he fights such silver samuri and sunfire that will probably address wolverine in english.

Shulder Donner said this:

We want to make it authentic so I think it's very likely we'll be shooting in Japan. Also, by the way, we are looking to have the Japanese Fox executives involved in helping and counselling us, because it's a different culture and we don't want to portray the way they speak, dress and act in an inaccurate way. I think it's likely the characters will speak English rather than Japanese with subtitles.

I want this movie to take place over a long time...maybe like 5-10 years...it's not a great example...but they (Fox and other brain trust) could take a little from Tokyo Drift which I didn't mind or like someone said, Last Samurai...You know...the white outsider getting accustomed to different lifestyle and showing the learning curve that comes with crap like that...

Wolvie should know the streets he lives around backwards and forwards...he should be able to use the city as a weapon...kinda like The Spirit...but less Frank Millery ya know...
