Sound under-water is a complex subject, the range of frequencies that can be used for communication and sound Intensity (measured in decibels) varies due to several factors such as water salinity, water temperature and pressure.

Which is why Whales communicate at different vocal frequencies from Dolphins as they live at different depths.

Suffice to say, we don't want to go into such details for Aquaman movie.

Agreed, the purpose of this movie is to entertain and get people interested in Ocean worlds, it's not aiming to be scientifically accurate movie.


If after watching this movie people do some research and find out the facts vs fiction, they will gain more knowledge, that's all.

On a related topic...

Even though sound travels better/faster underwater (because it’s a denser medium), actually speaking underwater is quite unimpressive. Many scuba divers have done this experiment (tricky - because after you shout/exhale, you immediately have to reinsert the regulator before inhaling ). And the resulting sound is very muted and muffled (and is mostly inaudible to your buddy). This is because sound doesn’t transmit well from one medium to another - e.g., the air medium of vocal cords to the water medium of the ocean.

But since Atlanteans are water-breathers, perhaps their vocalizations are “normal” and efficient.

Aww snap Randall Park is absolutely brilliant! Him being in Aquaman has already elevated it's awesomeness by at least 44%. He stole the show in Ant Man and was the truth as Kim Jong-Un in The Interview. I didn't even know it was the same guy until a mate told me when we saw Ant Man & The Wasp.
