"i saw a test screening of this and thought it was dreadful. i'm a fan of scorsese, too. i definitely thought it was kind of strange that a scorsese movie was being tested to begin with. it's painfully obvious that he's just trying to film a book, and not adapt it for another medium. one of the most poorly-paced films i've ever seen."

Where and when did your friend see this film? How long was it? I've read the book and since about half of it contains dreams and hallucinations, there really is no way to simply film it as written.

One of the theaters in Philly. I think it was an AMC theater but I could be wrong about that. We just went to a test screening of something else and gave them our e-mails when we filled out the questionnaire at the end. And they email me for them. The movie theater by where he lives just has people standing outside asking random people if they wanna come out to them. I believe he saw it about 2-3 months ago. It was around two hours, maybe less. I never got the e-mail for this movie. The most recent test screening I saw was Funny People a few months ago.

Well what happened with me was that we went to see a movie and there were people out there asking others if they would be interested in seeing an early screening of a movie. They didn't tell us the movie and we said why the hell not. The movie we ended up seeing was Funny People. After the movie ended, we filled out a questionnaire about the film and they asked us to leave our e-mails in case there's another test screening happening in our area. So he got the e-mail for another screening and it ended up being Shutter Island. I didn't get that e-mail. I don't know how it happens with other people.

I really dug Shutter Island. It kept me guessing all the way through and it had more twists and turns than I knew what to do with. This should be a fun flick. And my guess is it will move again to a more audience friendly month.

I haven't talked to him. When I see him again, I will make sure to ask him more about it. I didn't really want to ask him anything specific the first time since I don't like being spoiled but I'll ask him what you want to know.
