I'm already speculating what the twist ending is and it further supports my speculation based on some reviews posted here. I'll go watch it regardless on Friday, not all movies have to rely on a twist in order to be good.

The reviews look decidedly mixed. Oh well, still seeing it opening day.

The mixed reviews are surprising indeed.

It's Scorsese. It will be good. Indeed. Very much so.

I'm honestly not surprised about the mixed reviews.

I'm really looking forward to this one, i'll stay away from reviews and spoilers.

Just returned from it .
Solid movie and definately takes the story in unexpecting turns.
Good performances all around. Personally i think this may be Scorcese's best non-crime movie .

FINAL RATING 7.5/10

Also am i the only who thought that De Niro & John Malkovich were going to be in the movie ?
I swear when i watched the trailer i thought Robert De Niro was the smiling guy with the big cut along his face and Malkovich was "beaten up " guy who leo talks to. Turns out it was Jackie earle Haley :wow:

I thought De Niro was the guy with the cut. lol

I saw it last night at my friend's private screening( he owns a theater). Personally I'd give it a 10/10. Easily my favorite non-crime Scorcese film. I'm very surprised by the mixed reviews.
After you find out he's a patient and its all in his head...
theres ANOTHER twist. Its awesome.

Personally i think this may be Scorcese's best non-crime movie .

FINAL RATING 7.5/10

His best non-crime film and it only gets a 7.5.... curious, how would you score such, brilliant films, in my opinion, as After Hours, Age of Innocence, Bringing out the Dead, The Aviator, to name a few??

Aviator 7/10 ( it actually was this movie that changed my opinion on Leo's acting abilities. Before that i just couldn't see his acting potential in his previous movies)

Bringing Out the Dead 7/10

It's been a long time since i saw Age Of Innocence so i can't comment on how i'd rate the movie now. HAven't seen AFter Hours but then again i've haven't seen many of Scorcese's flicks in a long time . The most recent flicks i've seen of Scorcese ( at least not crime related) are Aviator , Gangs of New YOrk , Kings Of Comedy and Raging Bull.
Actually i forgot about Ragin Bull when i wrote my earlier post :oldrazz:
Bull this better then Shutter Island.

As for my score of Shutter Island. I dunno. Perhaps it's the fact that the movie is a mindf*** movie that definately needs repeat viewings to fully "understand" it ( if that is really possible).
Not only that but while i do think that the performances are good , i would'n't go so far to say that they are stellar ( like Daniel Day Lewis's performance in Gangs Of New York) or for that matter that the movie connected with me. Alot of times people tend to rate movies higher because of how emotionally invested they are with the characters. Take Taxi Driver for example. Even to this day i think alot of men can sympathise with Travis Bickle because they have been there ( well maybe/hopefully not the murdering part :hehe:) at some point in their life.

Hence why i'd rate this movie as a 7.5/10 . Hope that answers your question :yay:

Just saw it. 10/10
Bloody brilliant

Can't wait to see this. After the showing tomorrow, I'm off to Borders to get the book.

theres ANOTHER twist

That's the real twist. If you had read the book or read the spoilers online then you'd know it was coming. So, by throwing in a new twist he ended up shocking everyone. Although the new twist gives the movie a different meaning than the book.

Wait they changed the ending of the book? Now I'm curious...and worried.

It's still a twist, but it's actually a more sinister twist than the book's.

If they changed the ending from the book, then I'm really excited to see the movie now. Knowing the ending of the book, which seemed a bit lackluster, reduced my interest in the movie.

It was very well directed (duh) and acted. Music was great. Tension was good. But I gotta say, I'm not sure did I like the story.

From the first frame, I was utterly hooked to this movie. The ominous shot of the ship emerging from the fog sets the tone, and so does Teddy Daniels' introduction. In the first shot we see him in, he is already in an agitated state, trying to shake off a very bad feeling. Little does he know that it will only get worse and worse as his life and the movie proceeds. Everything and I do mean everything about every second of this movie exudes a feeling of dread, a nagging of uneasiness in the back of your head and very often, in your face. Scorsese puts every trick in his arsenal to use to make Teddy's and the viewer's life a hell. Within the first ten minutes I was already clutching my seat and holding my breath. The way the music swells up and the use of shots and cutaways whilst driving up to the institution in a jeep is nearly unbearable. This is a ****ed up movie, I had a knot in my stomach during nearly the entire running time. It was only during the final reveal (even though it is a life-shattering disaster to the protagonist) that I was able to relax, to let go of that feeling of uneasiness. The very last scene is oddly soothing. I would not call it a masterpiece, but it is definitely a masterwork of one of the greatest directors in the history of filmmaking. This one is chock-full of phenomenal shots, images, editing and acting.

Saw it first showing today. I enjoyed it and really liked that 2nd twist. Very well done.

9.5/10

I loved the hell out of it. One of Scorsese's best? I would say yes actually.

I just got back and I'm still in awe.

This movie was ****ing phenomenal from start to finish. The cinematography was some of the best I've ever seen. The dream sequences were some of the most beautiful things I've ever seen on film. Oh yeah, where the **** is the Oscar buzz for Leo? His performance was scary good.

All in all 10/10.
