Shyamalan's "Split" (James McAvoy)

Yeah, McAvoy is extremely underrated. He's on the level of Depp/DiCaprio/Bale/Phoenix in my honest opinion.

Shyamalan making a movie I might actually want to see? Color me shocked.

And Raising Cain has a lot of Psycho in it, of course.

This is getting pretty good reactions from Fantastic Fest. People are calling it Shyamalan's best film in years, and apparently has a great twist.

That's not exactly saying much.

Interesting.

I'm glad Shyamalan seems to be getting his groove back. Maybe The Visit was a turning point for him, hopefully.

I couldn't help but laugh at the mention of the twist. The man still loves his twists despite everything. But if it's a good movie, then I can respect him for sticking to it. And it's good to see him doing original things which helps.

I'm always down for a Shyamalan comeback. Probably always why I've been disappointed with his outcomes over the years. But I hear The Visit is good so that's good. I think the guy just needed to be taken down some pegs. His ego was the the central thing that was holding him down all those years.

I didn't see it but I bet you the TWIST in this movie is that the 3 girls he kidnapped are all part of his multiple personalities.

I hope I'm wrong because I want to be surprised in movies like his masterpiece 6th Sense and Brad Pitt's Fight Club and Nolan's Memento and The Prestige.

That's what I'm thinking. Those girls are him, but he sees them as being outside of him and as different from him (like his other personalities probably can't tell that they're inhabiting the same body). Which although not surprising, is narratively intriguing and I'm willing to bet (?, a psychologist could answer this one) accurate.

The Visit was decent enough to watch on a weeknight. I'm sort of excited for this one, the trailer looks good and I like McAvoy.

Looks like the days of people reacting to M Night's name like THIS are waning, huh?

That's exactly like in the movie

Identity

so I'm pretty sure that's not it

/\ No. Wow, people really forgot that movie.

The twist in that film was that multiple personality even was a part of the film at all.

Basically that twist would be impossible to have here.

Shyamalan and January? Isn't that a recipe for disaster?
You'll be surprised.

I saw this yesterday and was genuinely surprised.

Smart and thoroughly thrilling with amazing performances from Taylor-Joy and McAvoy, Split is M. Night Shyamalan’s redefined welcomed return to the thriller genre that dignifies his place as the talented writer and director that we missed since Signs.

Don't worry it's spoiler free ;)

I was told the twist and let me say it's ****ing incredible. Highly suggest you watch it if you like Shyamalan's early films.

I forgot about this, I assumed the twist was that there's only one girl who also has DID and the other two are parts of her personality.

Yeah the twist does seem very clever and it's not something anyone will see coming

I can't tell if the
Unbreakable tie in
comments are serious or not. :funny:

Opens this weekend. I saw this a few months back at the afi film fest, critics seem to be favoring this so far, gonna catch it again tonight. Definitely more in line with his early films, mcavoy is great in this. I think it's important to go into the movie without relying so much on how it might end. Much more enjoyable that way.
