to be a jedi you have to follow, and be told what to think, and how to think
to be a sith you just have to be yourself

The Jedi are wise enough to know that the "self" is merely an illusion, and strive to become selfless. The Sith are weak and can't help but to cave into their desires, thus there becomes a point of growth where they can not pass, whereas the jedi grow stronger through their selflessness.

I think Maul summed up this debate nicely ...

I get the feeling he was still far from being a complete Sith lord yet he defeated a very powerful Jedi master and had Obi-Wan at his mercy ..... BUT .... he got over confident, lost focus and this gave the young Jedi a victory from the jaws of defeat.

So ... as several people have said above. The Sith are more powerful in a raw way but the Jedi have focus and control.

This thread is silly...

It's been shown time and time again that the way forward is to be a dark jedi...

being able to dabble in the dark without being consumed by it....

just ask Quinlan Vos

or luke skywalker

or anakin skywalker

I think Mace Windu was close to being a Dark Jedi in his earlier days. Alluded to by not only his apprentice (forgot her name), but also from him having a purple lightsaber (red mixed with blue, for those who didn't catch it).

Correct on both counts . Mace created his own saber fighting style because he was so influenced by the Dark side. When Sam Jackson wanted a different color saber, they decided to make a chapter in Windu's life where he goes out on a personal mission to try and find himself (after believing he was drifting too close to the dark side). During his journey, he did many good deeds for some alien race (and found he indeed belong to the outside the dark side of the force) and they gave him a special stone that he used to make his unique light saber. It symbolized his temptation to the dark side, and his expertise in light Saber combat.

I'm not fully aware of this but then i thought that his purple crystal was given to him as a special gift for something he did as a padawan?

I know he uses a martial arts style called Vapaard which has dark elements in its latter stages.

Personally...I think there needs to be a new way. A balance. People are not 100% good or 100% evil. From the ashes of the Jedi and the Sith a new order needs to be founded. One that combines the teachings of both.

Controlled passion and rage while fighting, then Calm and meditation when a more delicate problem arises.

Were I in the SW Universe I would found a new order that teaches it's followers to use the force as a whole, not just one side or the other.

Oh.......And to add to my earlier post sith "MIGHT BE" stronger in the force compared to a jedi.....Remember Plaguis? He could stop death....Name one jedi who has !EVER! done that.......
