I'm looking for hilarious comedies that fit these sub-genres of comedy.

Slapstick Comedy
Black/Dark Comedy

For dark comedies I would check out Fargo, A Serious Man, Barton Fink, Burn After Reading...I'm starting to see a pattern.

World's Greatest Dad.

Have you ever seen Noises Off?

It's technically a farce. Doors closing. That sort of stuff. But it's got plenty of action and it's brilliant. The play is a classic and the film was very good.

Stars Christopher Reeve, John Ritter, Carol Burnett, and Michael Caine and a whole bunch more.

Great movie!!!

Election
Freeway
World's Greatest Dad

Those are the only decent black comedies I think of right now.

The Danish screenwriter Anders Thomas Jensen has directed a few movies himself, which are brilliant black comedies: Flickering Lights, The Green Butchers and Adam's Apples. Check 'em out.

Coen Brothers' stuff is top of the line stuff; definitely check out Miller's Crossing. I'd also check out Wes Anderson's early stuff, Punch Drunk Love, In Bruges, Dr. Strangelove, Harold and Maude, Evil Dead 2, Election, American Psycho, Bringing Out the Dead, Fear and Loathing, Ghost World, King of Comedy, Tarantino's filmography, and Wild at Heart. Man Bites Dog is supposed to be good, but I've never seen it.

Besides Tenenbaums...Anderson's films aren't really "dark"...don't ya think...

For slapstick, for me nothing beats the Abbott & Costello classics.

The Naughty Nineties

Abbott & Costello In The Foreign Legion

Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein

Abbott & Costello Meet The Mummy

Abbott & Costello Meet The Invisible Man

Abbott & Costello Meet Dr Jeckyl & Mr Hyde

Hold That Ghost

Who Done It?

My memory's a bit fuzzy, but Bottle Rocket and Rushmore did have a fair amount of black humor mixed in with his dry and whimsical style.

To each his own I guess...but always thought Anderson's films especially Bottle Rocket and Rushmore were very light-hearted and more fun than "dark"...

I thought Bad Lieutenant was funny...but its not much of a comedy but it rocks :oldrazz:

I would say Airplane! could fit both categories
This.

And these (I've seen the bolded ones).

Little Miss Sunshine has some fantastic dark comedy.
And this.

More:

Adaptation.
Being John Malkovich
Three Kings (not strictly a comedy but it fits in with what others have recommended)
Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrells
Snatch
RocknRolla
American Splendor
Shaun of the Dead
Hot Fuzz
Thank You For Smoking (not exactly dark but it's a satire)
For Your Consideration (also not exactly dark, but cynical)
Grosse Point Blank
MASH
