Sleeping Problems

I'm sleep-deprived as I type this right now. Aiming to stay awake till sometime tonight when I can catch sleep at a good time and try to biologically reset my patterns. Sleep deprivation blows, but a lot of the time it's the only remedy for this for me.

Ever since I was laid off I've been on a really ****ed up sleep schedule. I've attempted several times to do the "stay up all night and all day in order to be really tired and go to sleep at a normal time" trick, but I can never last long enough.

Once in a blue moon I'm able to better control my patterns but not nearly as much as I should, and my online addiction doesn't help. I have hope one day I'll finally break the cycle.
Maybe you can do some sort of parental control on your internet so in a way you can prevent yourself from looking at those sites. I mean sure you can disable it, but maybe it maybe a psychological trick you can play on yourself.

I've found exercise really helps. I usually have trouble sleepping if it's windy, since the winds howls off my bedroom windows, but upped my exercise routine over the past two weeks and the strongs winds over that same period haven't been a problem. I'm so tired when I go to bed I fall asleep really quick.

For those of us who have difficulty sleeping and maintaining consistant sleeping patterns.

I've had the worst sleeping patterns for as long as I can remember. 90% of the time I stay up late, get up late and wash, rinse and repeat the cycle. It's not uncommon for me to go to bed as late as six AM and get up as late as two or three in the afternoon, sleeping a solid portion of the day away. It's very frustrating for me. I've been oversleeping as usual for the past month or so. Got up at almost 1:00 PM today which isn't too bad, but fell asleep right afterwards and it was about 3:30 PM by the time I awoke again. I hate being a heavy sleeper, because it makes me even more prone to oversleeping.

Do you play a lot of video games? Especially before going to sleep? They cause certain chemicals in the brain to remain in hyper active mode and won't allow you to sleep.

Yeah, they say you should shut off all stimulating stuff like an hour before you wanna sleep.

There's been way too many times I've had dreams about video games while sleeping, especially if I didn't finish a level/mission. The entire night I'll dream of strategies to finish it, so now I know I have to finish a level/mission in a video game before I go to sleep if I'm playing it otherwise there's no way I'll have a good night's sleep.

I can't for the life of me develop a regular sleeping routine. I usually get 5-5.5 hours sleep, any more and the day just feels wasted.

Then again I end up sleeping in too much on the weekends. But I never have a problem falling asleep.

Not anymore, but I find being online has pretty much the same effect.

For those of you who have trouble waking up or sleep too late...

It's called an alarm clock. Look into it.

Alarm clocks don't work for me, I'm a very heavy sleeper. Sounds and movements don't wake me up.

My sleep patterns have been sort of irregular in on and off periods for the past few years ago. When I had an internship over the summer they were made regular due to the daily schedule, but college has ****ed up that, so my sleep pattern is allll over the place.

Also, don't place it right next to your bed, place it across the room so that you actually have to get out of bed to turn it off. That way you wont be as likely to hit snooze and fall asleep.

I totally hear you, man. I have the exact same problem. My problem isn't that I don't get tired-- heck, I could fall asleep right now if I wanted to-- but there's just so much friggin' stuff I want to do rather than sleep, even though most of it is frivilous crap that doesn't matter (like the hours a day I'll put into using the internet). It's really frustrating, because when I DO get up on time I find myself getting way more done in a day than I would if I'd gotten up at 1 PM, but I'm always slipping into this wretched nocturnal sleep cycle anyway. It only started when I moved out of home and started going to college, because I find it's just plain a lot easier to do the frivolous little things I like late at night than in the day, and I usually don't have any pressing matters to attend to in the morning. Maybe I need some morning classes...

Damn, even though I fell asleep early last night, I still overslept. I first got up around 8:30 AM or so, not bad, but fell right back asleep (probably due to my body needing more rest) and got up around 12 or 1 later before almost getting up at 3. Ugh. I notice I oversleep a lot more during cold weather, which only adds to my tiredness.

The only real sleep problems I get is recurring nightmares. I have this one where I'm trapped in my old high school and I'm slowly being surrounded by zombies.

The thing that I LIKE about having a weird sleep cycle is that the middle of the night is so peaceful and tranquil.

One word. Thorazine. Take that 100mg of that and I garuntee youll be sleeping for about 12-16 hours. And when you wake up youl be doing the thorazine shuffle

I rarely get in a full 4 hours straight sleep, with the baby and all...........

I just set the sleep timer on the TV and turn the channel to C-SPAN, next thing I know I'm waking up. And that's not a joke, I really do that. Sometimes I watch NatGeo or Food Network too.

I work during the night into the early morning so sleep during the day an when I need to get some sleep I watch some Bob Ross an the Joy of Painting. Its on for me at 1PM an halfway into making a "happy little tree" I'll be out. His soothing voice an the noise the canves makes gets me real relaxed.

I have too much energy when I go to sleep. I can go to class, go to the gym, and go to work that same day and when I eventually lay down I have too much energy.

It's like physically I am tired and want to sleep, but my mind is constantly thinking and it's frustrating because I may not get to sleep till about 3 or 4 in the morning.

I took some pm pills last night, after a week of not getting to sleep very well, I woke up feeling so refreshed.

it's odd for me, because on the weekends, I'll be tired like no other. cept on occasion saturdays, like today. but monday through friday, I'm wide awake.

I woke up at 9am. Fell asleep at 2-8pm...Now I'm kinda tired :/

The best thing is to exercise. Do it for a couple hours at night after work and you'll pass the hell out. Me personally I started using breath right strips and they help me get a better nights sleep. I used to think those thing were ******ed but boy was I surprised at how well they helped.

Forget about Ambien or any of that other stuff. Our culture is waaaaaay to chemical dependent these days. For thousands of years people got by without it.
