What do you guys know about sleeping pills?

i've had insomnia since i was about 12 or 13 and earlier about a week ago i was prescribed something for my insomnia, Trazodone. I split them in half when I take them and i don't take them every night.

it's too early to tell if they're helping me yet but the first few nights i felt like they were working in reverse. regardless of the time i went to bed, i was waking up wide awake at 4am

Extra strength Theraflu has the same effect.

Wasn't Ledger taking way more than directed to try to get high, plus drinking on top of it?

"Why so sleepy?"

sorry, I couldn't resist. :awesome: Anyway OP needs to stand up to his roommate. I had a couple crappy roommates, but blasting music at 4am when you know the other person has to wake up at 7 is beyond the pale. That's just an outright dick. If you really can't stand up to him, then at least file for a room change. And taking sleeping pills at 4 might make you sleep through your alarm at 7, so it's a dumb idea.

Or you could beat him to death with a brick. :o

It's 3:47 in the morning, I have to wake up at 7:15, and my roommates are *******s with terrible tastes in music. So, needless to say, I am in the market for some sleeping pills.

What all do I need to know?

*edit:* Great, I spelt "know" wrong.

What i know about sleeping pills, is if you take one right after taking a laxative, your bed sheets won't be pretty in the morning.

I take the generic version of Tylenol PM an occasion, mostly when I have to go to bed earlier than usual. It works for me.

I take one 25mg Simply Sleep or the Wal-Mart version every night. I have always had sleeping problems. The pill helps me fall asleep faster, but after 3 or 4 hours I am up again. I've tried too, but get the "jimmy" legs.
I have had prescription meds for my sleeping issues and they only made me feel worse. I would wake up exhausted like I haven't slept in days.
I've tried the Costco brand and one pill has knocked me out for over 16 hours. Which is insane considering I'm a pretty big guy. I would cut them in half and they would work, but I still would wake up very sleepy.

We have a bottle of Valerian (herbal) pills for sleeping issues... it works really well if you are sick or anxious. If I was going to take "sleeping pills" I'd use something a bit more natural rather than a prescription med, unless of course you really need it. Some peoples sleeping issues are greater than others. Loud music is not what I'd call a good reason for starting to use pills. Man up and tell your roommate to respect the fact that other people live there.

I talked with them and he was a bit of an ass at first (that's because we're both "Take Charge" kind of guys) and he's been keeping it down. The problem is that it take me forever to fall asleep every night. If I pass out in under twenty minutes I consider it a good night. A bad one is I simply don't sleep at all.

I think it's completely possible that I just have terrible sleep whatever and it could be a product of my bouts of insomnia that I've been through different times in my life. Bah, I need some tea.

I've been trying a meditative thing where I clear my mind and focus on my breathing, and that seems to be going well.

used to take tylenol pm's but they don't work anymore if you become dependent on them. try benadril.

try working out, going to the gym or for a run or something at some point in your day. Your body will be begging you to shut down and sleep at night, you'll naturally become tired if you're exhausted by the end of the day from squeezing in some good exercise.

I jog three miles a day and work out. It's not a problem with not being tired, it's a problem with actually falling asleep. :P

Can't afford alcohol and it messes with my aforementioned high-energy levels. :csad:

Read the Superherohype faq from beginning to end. That'll put you to sleep.
