I highly doubt that Marvel would bring back anyone from the original New Line Blade Trilogy or carry over any story details from it; they're more likely to start over from scratch with a reboot featuring an all-new storyline and all-new actors.

I'm not so sure. I think since Blade is a black character and so far Marvel hasn't been pushing solo projects with black leads or other non-white leads, they might go back to Snipes as Blade because that is a proven money maker. And there would be media attention and fan interest in seeing Snipes reprise the role. Bringing Snipes back is the safe route.

I've long said that Blade is bigger than Wesley, no matter how good Wesley was in the role and even how much he contributed to how viable Blade is as a character/franchise. In a way he helped make the character cool enough to survive without him playing him. I don't like the idea that a comic book role can only be played by one person. We've seen other definitive perhaps matched or bettered several times now. The same could happen with Blade.

As for the failures of Blade the Series, I don't think Kirk Jones is solely to blame. If anything I lay it at Goyer's feet. He's the guy that picked Jones over Michael Jai White (from what I've read), and he's the one centered the show around new characters, in a way continuing the demolition he started in Trinity. Despite it's faults, I do think Spike gave the show a raw deal. It wasn't a great show, but it didn't suck either. I wish it had at least been given another season to see if it could find and build an audience.

All that being said, I'm glad that Snipes is out and if he takes another stab at Blade, I will be watching. I wouldn't be mad if he got at least one more shot at it to make up for Trinity.

Well I highly doubt Snipes had much to do in changing the defining features of the character I.e. origins, personality, powers, and weaknesses. That was all writing. I'm not denying Snipes brought the flare to the character like how RDJ does with Tony Stark. But what I'm saying is the New Line Cinema version of the character is vastly different than the Marvel comic book version and if Marvel is going to bring him into.their MCU they're more than likely going to go with their original version and not someone else's

How can you know for sure that Snipes didn't have some say so in redefining Blade's origins, personality, powers, and weaknesses? I don't want to take away from Goyer at all, and you are probably right in some respects. But I got to say I think Snipes probably had some sway in Blade's personality, or how he carried himself. The focus on martial arts, the samurai-like stoicism, I think maybe came from him. Then again, I do think Snipes wanted Blade to at least have a love scene-to show more passion-but they never let him do that.

Also, Marvel has already changed the comic character to fit more in line with the movie Blade. Especially his look and him being half-vampire/half-man so I don't think it's that much of a difference between the two versions of the character for Marvel not to take on the New Line version if they were allowed to do so.

What they didn't bring over was the other characters and stories from the films, not counting whatever comic adaptations.

I think Wesley did a whole lot to make Blade a cool character. Compare his take on Blade with Kirk Jones (really Goyer's take). Once again, I don't want to completely knock Goyer. He kept New Line from casting LL Cool J after all. But I do think the films came from a fusion of Goyer and Snipes ideas and I wished that Snipes would get the credit he deserved for what he put into the character. He helped take a D-List guy and make him a viable franchise. I don't think that's been done since. Even Ghost Rider had a higher profile than Blade before he came to the big screen.

I'd love to see Snipes back as Blade. The first two movies are among my favorites in the genre; always appreciated his take on the character.

That being said, I have a feeling that this is one character that Marvel will haul away into their vault forever. Blade doesn't seem as if he's ever going to be any sort of priority for the studio, despite being what I'd consider an integral part of the genre's resurgence.

I hope that's not the case. I mean, Blade does have a proven cinematic record of success. It would be risky to do another film, with or without Snipes, but due to the character's past success on the big screen I can't see Marvel leaving him idle forever.

As others have pointed out, I think Dr. Strange or a revived Blade franchise could perhaps lead a Marvel Knights Avengers-style project that culminates in a Midnight Sons movie. A movie with Blade, Dr. Strange, Moon Knight, Brother Voodoo, Werewolf-By-Night, and the female Ghost Rider would be pretty kick ass.

I would love Snipes to return as Blade but I don't see Marvel going for it. He doesn't exactly fit the universe they created.

It's actually a shame Marvel have those rights because there is no-one else I see in that role. I'm totally fine with him sitting outside of the MCU, as I am with X-Men because their worlds are so distinctive. Ironically, in another studio's hand I think the chances of a Snipes reprisal would be pretty good too.

Phase 2 is full of movies that will likely outgross the entire Blade trilogy combined. Why should Marvel revisit a low budget, low return franchise with average reviews when they can push on into uncharted territory?

Because Blade is big reason why Marvel is where it is today. Could you imagine if Blade flopped they might not have put out X-men or Spiderman. Plus there is still a fan base out here who would be interested in the series.

Correct. And Blade has been Marvel's only successful R-rated franchise and best regarded comic supernatural movie franchise. Maybe Ghost Rider made more money (not sure about that though), but Blade and Blade 2 were better received by critics and fans.

Sure Marvel can get tons of money from the superhero films, but they can also go for genre dollars as well, and Blade has a proven record of success in that regard.

And Blade's mix of horror, comics, and martial arts can appeal to people who maybe aren't into superhero films. So why shouldn't Marvel seek to get money from those people as well?

Bump. I think this franchise is a perfect way for Marvel to try the 3 film a year since it can be lower budgeted than most of their other films and tie with other bigger projects like Dr.Strange.

If this was a continuation to Snipes's films then Morbius would be my first pick for the villain of the new film, but they'll probably want to reboot, so i'm not sure, this could also be rebranded as Tomb of Drácula, and if a film is too much then a tv series could work too.

Not really, it's not as if Blade was such a box office success, or critical one, it would certainly not be enough to inspire Sony pushing such an expensive blockbuster as Spider-Man, even X-Men seems to take more from the matrix, and even then, those type of suits were just the style in the 90s "cool" movies or characters.

How would he enhance the MCU? Plus I doubt Marvel is going to bring him into their carefully crafted universe right after he gets out of jail. That just doesn't look good to the family target audience.

My understanding is, it wasn't the budget nor the ratings, it was the audience demographic. Blade was a hit, the biggest hit that channel had. . . but primarily with female viewers, who the channel had no idea what to do with.
