Last I heard JF was intending to use The Mandarin as the shadowy arch nemesis of the trilogy. So I was suprised when I got to the final battle and it occurred to me that there had been no references to The Ten Rings at all!

Yeah I know that the passport guy was suposedly a Ten Rings thug, but that wasn't obvious to the audience (in fact I don't think it was communicated to the audience at all).

Just seems like a real missed opportunity. I mean if you've got clearance to do 2 more films you'd make then closely linked. But now IM2 will stand out as a seperate film whereas IM1 & 3 will premusably be cosistent in their themes.

So when did we lose the 10 Rings from the script and why? Has JF given us an explanation? Will we see any deleted scenes?

OK, remind me; where in the first film did they mention the Ten Rings?

Pretty sure the first time they're named specifically was in the cave when Tony was captured. I don't remember if Obidiah mentions their name in their later meeting, but their aims and objectives are referenced a few times.

They didn't. The man who provides Vanko with his passport is a member of The Ten Rings.

There's an actor in the credits credited as a Ten Rings gangster which presumably was Vanko's contact that as Orange said gave him his passport.

Though there is nothing to indicate that we would know this by watching the movie.

They never dropped the Ten Rings, but I'm sure if they would've mentioned them in film people would've moaned and complained.

I doubt people would have moaned and complained, I would have rather had them mention the ten rings and focus more on iron man's story then the avengers. I think that was a missed opportunity to build up the third film.

Ivan and Hammer's ties to The Ten Rings is drawn out a lot better in the novelization. Watching the movie I felt that being more or less excised removed a layer of menace.

Yeah thats a real shame. I think that it wouldn't have intruded into the film too much to have Raza orchestrate the prison break and deliver Whiplash to Hammer.

Missed opportunity.

Did Raza get shot? To death? Until he died?

Really? :wow:

Nooo... I didnt that took place. I remember only the guards outside the tent getting shot. I always assumed Raza survived.

Has this been confirmed either way?

I assumed that Obadiah saying "the least of your worries" in reference to paralyzing him, then the gunshots implied he died.
