So I got some bad news today.

Lumberjack, I would make every day count once you have come to terms with your condition. HIV sufferers can lead fulfilling lives provided they make adjustments to their lifestyle. Take care of yourself mate and ( I know this is easy for me to say ) start adding life to your days my friend

 Sorry to read this Lumberjack... I would suggest that you try to live as healthy, happy and normal a life as possible. If you have a job you hate, quit it for one you love, even if it doesn't pay as well. Eat right and excercise. I'm sure you're already researching the best way to treat the body, but don't forget to take care of your mind as well. This kind of thing can be really depressing, but there are support groups out there designed to help folk exactly like you. Have you had a second test done? Sometimes you can get a false positive. Good luck

Well, since they have found a mutation in some Africans who cannot get HIV I believe there is hope man.

It is rather interesting how this virus works.

(I'm gonna become a bioengineer someday:))
Some are immune? Where did you hear that?

HIV and AIDS medication is big business, it'll probably be pretty hard to get a cure out there.
I wouldn't be surprised if there already was one.

Just found out about this,My condolences but don't give up as many have said:(

Holy Cow LJ! You have my sincerest sympathy. But you know, with all the advances they're making in treatment and research, you might have a lot longer than you think. At least from what I've read, they can give you stuff that keeps the HIV from becoming full blown AIDS (which is the one that really kills) I mean look at Magic Johnson, he's still in good shape.

Anyway, I'm rambling...but sympathy to you LJ, and remember, healthy or sick always live like you were dying

I do appreciate the genuine support everyone. I have recieved a few very nice PMs, which is something I'm not accustomed to. Treatment is pending. My insurance company are trying their best to get out of paying for my meds and if they do have to pay, they want to give me something that will only prolong AIDS as opposed to prevent it. They're saying that due to the fact that I don't know how I got it, that it can't be guaranteed it wasn't self-inflicted somehow and that's not covered by my plan.

So I went last week to donate plasma in order to get some extra cash. I was denied as it turns out that I've contracted HIV at some point in the last 6 months. Apparently I'm not going to live to see 30 if there isn't some sort of major advance in the treatment of the disease. I don't really have much to say right now. The gravity of the situation has just set in today and I don't really know how to react. I've told my family and my girlfriend, who has thankfully not contracted the disease, and they've taken it much than I have up to this point. I am going to die and I can't do a damn thing about it.:(

Do you have any idea how you contracted it?

Honestly, no. I can't think of any time that I may have contracted it besides on a very, very drunken night. There have been nights where I've drank so much w/ my g/f that I don't remember having sex with her, so it's completely possible that I have had sex with someone else and not known it.

That's just too bad. I certainly wish you the best of luck and that you'll be in my prayers at night. If you ever need to chat with anyone you can count on me to give you advice and support.

Seriously Magic Johnson is still around and how long ago did he come out and say he had HIV.
MJ doesn't have HIV anymore his money paid for the cure. He went in one day and said that the virus is gone.

Thats not true they only have treatments that slow it down for a couple of years. Magic Johnson is fine because he doesn't have it any more there is a cure for A.I.D.S because it was made by man. I've seen the building they were suppose to have made it in they destroyed it a while back but if you have the money there is a cure but if you dont you have to go through the treatments and hope it fights it off.

That really sucks Lumberjack. We've never actually interacted on the Hype I believe but I wish you the best you can possibly get out of life, and with a little hope, a cure one day. Live life to the fullest.
