So when can Superheroes go back to fighting crime...

I still see comics as an escape, I never found that argument to be standing on firm ground. AM I still reading stories with people that have super powers? Check. Do they still have plenty of action? Check. Do I care about the characters? Check.

All I'm saying is not all comics should be an escape. Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Sandman, Transmetropolitan, hell, even Hopward the Duck, hardly escapes. Comics are a medium, p[lain and simple. Escapsim is fine, but it shouldn't be the only thing there is.

You're right. Not ALL! But, I read Superhero books for escapism. If I wanted the gritty stuff, there's indie comics for that.

Elijya and I have had this talk before. You got your indie comics in my Superhero comics!

I suppose. Although, that's a very interesting way of looking at it, since the early superhero comics weren't esapes in the classic sense. Superman's early villains were corrupt buisnessmen, gangsters, abusive husbands, and other people representing very real social problems.

Really. I think it should all be a matter of telling a good story, escapism or no. It doesn't matter if it's full of sex, swearing, and violence, or it's a four color, morally black and white action thriller. As long as it's got the quality to back it up, it's good.

heroes have been fighting villians for the past 50 years and the same villians over and over. despite how good the stories were and are going to be. i don't see why people get all ape sh&t about Civil war thats only 7 months long. Marvels been giving you years and you can't give them 7 months w/o *****ing about how we want the same stuff.

That's where people like you are wrong. We don't want the SAME fights. We want NEW stuff.

Hell even Bendis ALMOST got it right. How cool would a REAL fight between Electro and the Avengers been?

It hasn't just been seven months. It's been going on for more than two years now. All of the major events throughout the last few years of the Marvel universe have not involved an actual supervillain behind everything.

In Avengers Disassembled and House of M, the enemy has been Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver respectively.

In Deadly Genesis, the enemy has been Cyclops' long-lost brother -- who's only doing this because the Shi'ar kept him as a slave and Xavier is an evil mindwiping bastard.

those things didnt effect every single comic and most comics were back to normal fighting crime with in the next issue.

At least DC has Emo Super Villains....that is better than nothing.

I'd rather see Ironman fighting Captain America than see Captain America fighthing Red Skull since it has happened so many times.

Of course they didn't affect every single comic. But they affected the characters, which is even more significant. The whole point of a big company crossover or event or whatever is to be big and bombastic and get your attention and make significant storylines. They're the storylines that Marvel wants you to notice. Is anyone at the recent conventions talking about how the X-Men butted heads with Apocalypse this year -- which also featured Gambit and Sunfire turning evil and fighting their teammates, incidentally -- over in their little corner of the world when you've got House of M or Civil War plastered across everyone's mind? And Marvel wouldn't have it any other way. The most prominent comics are the ones that set the tone for the company, and the most prominent comics featuring the most number of characters that we're supposed to be fans of have had those characters acting like soap opera cliches and fighting each other over the last few years.

I'd rather see something that makes sense and is in-character as opposed to some ridiculously-contrived hero vs hero fight to gave some fanboys a tickle.

1. And he isn't emo, he's insane. Big difference.

Ah, you just want to be a b*tch to me all day I see. Fair enough.

I'd be pretty insane too, if my world was gone and I was trapped in a crystal prison being manipulated by a Luthor for years, too.

So you are saying that an event which is selling very well may I add was made to give SOME "fanboys" something to like? How about, people are tired of buying the same thing and made an original storyline to get new readers and keep the ones who are getting bored? And as for your "characters not in-character" theory, what do you expect in Civil War? Captain America was a frozen soldier who was brought to the modern time, doesn't like that much change of what he considers freedom so he chooses the anti-registration act. Hercules, a born rebel joining anti-registration. YOUNG Avengers, being rebels obviously due to the fact many of them are teens. Spiderman having doubts about both sides due to this personal beliefs. Deadpool being happy about getting paid to hunt super heroes. Ironman claiming he knows what will happen and chooses a side he agrees with the best. Many of the X-Men not wanting to get involved in the politics of the super heroes. I can go on and on. I just love the fact you call it "a tickle for fanboys" just because you don't like it.

Yeah, your argument had no merit after you brought out the whole its "selling well if I may add" line.

SBP is definitely emo! When he was imprisoned by the Gl's he was whining about something and started cutting himself. I'm not positive, but I think I saw a panel where he was writng in his journal.

Mainly because he just put it in the middle of a sentence, without anthing to seperate it from the statement he was making (i.e. brackets or just plain grammar)
