Homecoming So where does the spider come from?

Eh.. no Stark involvement please, not everything has to somehow involve or revolve around him. (No offense MyDude), I'd much rather Pym industries create the spider.

No one should create the spider. The spider was just an accident.

so if i get this retrovirus shot in me I can be Spider-Man too? :hmr:

That would probably be the best outcome possible if your cells were to be infused with spider genes accidentally. It's much more likely you would become severely deformed and die a horrible death. If someone carefully selected only certain parts of the spiders genetic code, then you probably could cause some super human abilities without horrible side effects.

No spider-sense. Probably no super strength. Slight-- slight chance of wall-crawling... and it'll probably kill you.

Not worth it.

I always liked the idea of him being bitten on a school science trip. However, I don't want anyone to witness it or find out about it.

I actually think the spider sense could be loosely justified by spider genes. If you interpret it as some kind of heightened sensitivity to stimulus operating at a subconscious level.

About the super strength, there may coincidentally be some genes in a spider that could alter myostatin production or something. Not that a spider would be the best place to look for strength enhancing genes, but I could buy that coincidentally there was some code in there that improved his muscle tissue. Not a true transference of the spider's anatomy.

I'm not saying it's not cool or not believable, but I highly doubt it's possible.

I've never watched superhero movies for physics [edit: by physics I really mean scientific accuracy]. The people need to be realistic, but the powers just need to be cool.

I know! That'd be great.

What was with that genetically modified crap anyway? If I eat a genetically modified orange, do I become orange man?

No you actually have to get bitten by a genetically modified orange to become orange man. You'll laugh at how often that happens ;)

Oh yeah sure, it can't happen. But I think there's enough there to be the basis for some good science fiction.

Honestly though, I'm certain you could cause all kinds of strange unpredictable changes in a human using only the genes from a spider. We already know you can make a mammal generate silk. The spiders genetic code is more than 50% identical to our own. If someone were to have supreme knowledge of genetics, I'm confident they could select a very, very specific bunch of genes that could enhance:

*Strength
*Senses
*Reflexes
*Durability
*Coordination
*And generate spider scopulae with some adhesion function

Well, a cabbage's DNA is about 50% identical to our own, so excuse me if I'm not impressed. :P

The reason I said over 50% is because I already know we share roughly 50% of our genes with bananas, so a spider would have to be a decent amount more than that.

My goal wasn't really to impress, but I'm just saying we share a lot of the same code responsible for cell division and tissue development.

cabbage-man cabbage-man shares the same amount of identical DNA code to ours as a banana can

wait... what?

Ya having it just be a freak thing plays so much better for peter. The only spider persons who should be tied to govt groups or a corp are miguel and Jessica jones verse of spiderman and play into her hydra ties.

Spidey should be the lone dog. Powers from a freak way. And become a hero on his own. And become his own thing.

Then over series then have oscorp look into him get blood samples. And later on try to make powers from peter blood or something and that is how miles could be done later on.

Also I love to see peter powers continue to grow and mutate and maybe down the road adapt six arm saga and man spider. Be a cool thing to play on along with possible clones too.

I think one comic actually said it was a magic spider before.

 I don't want Stark involved either.

Ya no stark, no oscorp. Just let it be peter is at some random experiment and a lone spider just got caught in the mess and bam.

Also that totem story never did flat out say it was a magic spider. They just toss in was the spider already powered and radiation is what killed it or what not angle. And I don't want magic tied to spidey. Sure it's fun for once and awhile adventure. But I like my spidey more tech and science based.

Well, when a mommy spider and a daddy spider love each other very much...

We don't need to see Spidey's origins in any fashion. Everyone and their mother knows how Peter got his powers; the details do not matter. If his origins HAVE to come up AT ALL, it should be a natural part of dialogue or inner monologue - something simple - we don't need to see it or hear a play by play.

Take advantage of the MCU. Use Wanda to poke through Peter's head and show flashes here and there of his origin. Boom. One minute of screentime, total.

Yes, exactly. Even some well-placed, organic, flashbacks during key moments or to hit some emotional beats would work well. For an example, both Batman Begins and TSSM did this perfectly.
