So...why the hate for INFINITE CRISIS??

I am still trying to find the point to the whole World of New Krypton thing because at the end of the day they just hit the big reset button on everything.
That's the thing that has me so steamed about the end of WoNK. I think the editorial staff was so dead set on restoring the status quo that nobody really thought about what was happening. The end of WoS should be the kind of thing that breaks Superman's resolve, permanently. I was actually thinking of going back and re-reading some of the early New Krypton issues, but then War of Superman happened, and suddenly it was like, "well, there's clearly no point now."

Really? People seriously expected New Krypton to be a long-term status quo? It seemed pretty clear that they'd have to hit the reset eventually. Pulling Superman so far away from his iconic presentation was never going to last...

^Of course not. The fact that the New Krypton saga ended was never my problem; I always knew it would. My problem is that the way it was resolved was totally unrealistic, it made the entire journey totally pointless, it showed Superman as completely ineffective as a hero, and none of the characters reacted the way they logically would if such a spectacular cataclysm actually occurred.

But I'd rather spew this venom more thoroughly on the Superman boards.

They always say writing an ending is the most difficult part of telling a story. As far as NK, WONK, LSONK and WOTS, I feel that they did what they could. I believe Superman wasn't as adversely affected because his own people broke the enchantment, if you understand what I mean by that. Superman had a highly romanticized view of Krypton. Conversely, he has the values of a mid-Western American, and none of that aligned with the values of Krypton and its caste system. Over time, I believe Superman felt less connected to "his own people" and more connected to earth.

That is not to say that Superman should not have had a more dramatic reaction to New Krypton's destruction (though there were moments of highly visible anger), but Earth will always be his first home. I believe JMS will begin to explore Superman's true feelings on the matter, with his new run. If you read Superman #700, you already begin to see some of the reactions of the people of Earth and Superman, in relations to the events of the past two years (real time, not comic time).
