I'd rather the royal family be glorified, who more or less stay out of trouble not to mention the men serve in the armed forces; William is a helicopter pilot who still flies search and rescue missions and Harry served in Afghanistan until his position was leaked and he was recalled.

Compare them to the Kardashians, who are only famous today because of Kim's sex tape with Reggie Bush, or Jay-Z who everyone forgets was a drug dealer.

Celebrities in the US contribute less to society than the royal family does.

William is a helicopter pilot, which makes him more useful than 99% of celebrities. Kate is prettier than a lot of women who are famous for supposedly being 'hot'.

This is just a bit of national theatre. A new birth is a nice thing, and people like to share in that stuff. I'm not sure it needs such a media frenzy, but the usual pseudo-socialist sneering is pretty pointless, too. Just change the channel.

Kim K may have became rich and famous for f****g somebody on tape but the royal family are where they are(mainly their wealth and importance) because there ancestors f****d lots of people over for a 1000 years(Kim of coarse literally and the Royal figuratively). Of the 2 thing I think Kim K's sex tape is a lot less disgusting(and believe me I am a person who doesn't understand Kim K being rich and famous fr a stupid sex tape).

The Monarchy is symbolic of a relic of the past 1000 years we as a society should look to get rid of and use as an example how a country should not be run, not celebrate because they can do simple things everybody else can. Many Kings of ancient times wanted to be treated as some god like figures and the media in a way is giving the British monarchy "god like" status by covering a birth of a kid like it actually matters

I would say the Celebs haven't done much, while the monarchy has done even less other then exist. As for being toned down I don't remember Kim K(I am just using her as an example of a celebrity I have little respect for) getting 1/10th of the news coverage Kate has for her baby(I am guessing Kate's baby will be the top story on all major news networks coverage tonight(while ignoring real news), can't say that for Kim K(as bad as she is)). Much like Kim K, the royal family should be covered on TMZ not NBC Nightly News
