Ok so although I am far from a ghost rider fanatic, I have always thought the character was cool and have collected his series off and on, and am trying to brush up on him for the movie...

but from everything I know, Zarthros, the demon that inhabits the host, is a bit of a jerk-off, and not a good guy at all. In fact f he's anything like the exiles version, he's downright crappy.

And then isn't there the fact that memphisto curses someone as ghost rider....but memphisto is evil, so why would he ''curse'' someone to punish evil doers?

Maybe I have got some stuff wrong but as I understand it,. it doesn't make a whole heap of sense, so can someone with more knowledge help me out?

You should really read this. ZARATHOS was the demon for the Johnny Blaze GR, Johnny took control and used the GR powers to do good, but that wasn't what he was supposed to do. Noble was the demon Ketch had, he wasn't as bad as Zarathos was.

also, we dont know if the demon currently bonded to johnny blaze is Zarathos, Kale, a new one, or even a demon at all...it may just be a side effect of all the time Johnny spent in hell recently

I believe that Johnny always mentally fought for control with Zarathos, and usually won out, thus keeping GR as a force for good.

If you read the final year or two of the original series, Zarathos slowly began to take control more and more, causing GR to behave in an increasingly violent and sadistic manner, even to the point where he caused serious harm to his former Champions team mate, Warren Worthington, and had to be taken down (barely) by The Avengers...

But anyway, as The Joker stated; we really dont know if the current incarnation is even zarathos yet, or what. :ghost:

The movie version is a mix and match. MSJ (Mark Steven Johnson) has said he liked Johnny the best and wanted to avoid all the confusion. I don't think you will be able to understand the movie any better by reading the comics out at the moment.

He will still make the deal with the devil etc., but nobody knows exactly what the background he will create in the movie will be except MSJ and the cast.

Enjoy the new site and enjoy the movie. :ghost: 63 to go!:woot:

Also, Mephisto did not curse Blaze to punish evil doers. First of all, it's not like evil people all hang out in the same club and have decoder rings. As long as Johnny beating up evil humans didn't interfer with Mephisto's plans for greater power, he didn't really care. Second, Johnny was, I believe, meant to be a bounty hunter for Hell, tackling the demons that managed to escape from the pit and dragging them back to Hell. Using him under this pretense, Mephisto intended to use him as a pawn in his power play in the underworld. Third, Johnny of course fought against Mephisto's manipulations every step of the way.
