People say Burton's Gotham was great looking but not realistic, and Nolan's didn't looked like Gotham. In the movie Flatliners, they made Chicago look both real and very Gothic. And guess who directed that movie.
Joel Schumacher. Funny.

One related thing I want to say regarding this whole Gotham-Chicago look. I feel the "regular" city look is just as valid as the Gothic city, and actually it was a normal looking Gotham that I got to know and grew up with in the late 80's while reading comics. I mean check out some of the panels from that era - that was MY Gotham

Yes, but the thing is, Gotham in TDK didn't try to hide the fact that it was shot in Chicago. It still looks exactly like Chicago, and doesn't really have any original attributes to it. In BB, they had the Narrows, Arkham, Wayne Manor, the docks, and the Subway stations(monorail) to give it an original look, that makes it feel separate from Chicago.

In other words, I don't think people are upset about how modern Gotham feels in TDK, it's just that it looks EXACTLY like Chicago, and it can really take you out of the movie at times. It doesn't feel like Gotham, because it can't, when it IS an unmasked Chicago. In BB, even though there were areas filmed in Chicago, it never had a true Chicago feel to it. Gotham doesn't have to be gothic all the time(even though that's what I prefer), but it does have to look original enough to make you believe that it is an original city. Which it should.:cwink:
