That is really offensive. HD IS that damned good. It is as big a leap for home entertainment as the advent of color TV and VCR's. I work in the film industry, because of HD. We are on the cutting edge of a revolution in the way films are made...period...end of story.

that article is stupid. blu-ray isn't going anywhere since ps3's were going for several thousands of dollars on e-bay. didn't see that occuring for microsoft.

Supply and demand, there was no where near the shortage of 360 as there is for PS3.... When it first came out...

I've watched a football game in HD. While it looked better than on my TV, I didn't see a need to see empty field on either side of the offensive line, I didn't see a reason to see more people in the stands.

Then you are obviously blind. If you can't see the difference in color response, vibrance, contrast and definition of picture between SD and HD then you are blind, or not actually seeing an HD picture on a good HD monitor.

There are other ways of seeing new episodes of shows that same night it airs then watching them on TV. Its not the end of the world if someone doesnt see the newest episode asap & if what your saying does happen then that wont help with shows when it comes down to ratings. The ones that dont care will just download their shows an hour later after airing. If what you say does happen ratings will die so bad it wont be laughable.

There's nothing much worth watching on tv now, except for sports.

And since I subscribe to Sirius Satellite Radio, I don't have to rely on the occasional Bears game being shown in Memphis.

My TV is currently being used to play video games and watch DVDs. And since there are DVDs for shows I like, I won't have to bother with commercials at all.

You're a lemming. You said that the advancement is akin to color TV or VHS. It is not. A sharper picture isn't as huge of an advancement as going from black and white to color nor is it as huge of an advent as being able to tape a program and watch it later, or having an entire catalogue of movies and entertainment opened up via VHS. I just got back from watching football at my inlaws. They bought themselves a 60" LCD HDTV for Christmas and had the HD installed yesterday. Was it a better picture? Yes. But it was the same freaking game I could watch and enjoy just as much on my 40" TV at home. They aren't enjoying the game $2000 more plus an extra $20 a month more than me. They bought it because they were convinced that they "had" to have it. It's a friggin' luxury item, not the second coming of Christ. When they come down sufficiently in price, then maybe I can justify buying one. For now, and for most Americans, it isn't worth the price tag. If you believe it is, you are buying into the consumerist mentality that is being fed to you, and by being part of the industry, you are obliged to propagate.

HD is not mainstream, in my opinion. They market to a limited demographic, people with money. With any new technology, it is always very expensive right out of the gate. I remember when DVD players were going for $1000, the same as Blu-Ray Players are now. This HD upgrade is comparable to VHs going to DVD. People made the same arguments before. If you can't afford to upgrade then simply wait for the market to stablize and the prices to drop. No need to act like a snobbish iconoclast just becaue you think you are better or smarter than everyone else. No, then you are just an *******. And nobody likes an *******.

the early adopters already have theirs and probably keep upgrading cos they want to. the next stage is for critical mass in public awareness. it's the only way to saturate the market. jeez.
