Gamespot have a preview for the PS3 build of FULL AUTO 2 in the atricle they note that the multiplayer game was running on a functional playstation network.

It's also worth noting that we played Full Auto 2's multiplayer on the actual PlayStation network platform, so apparently Sony already has its online gaming infrastructure up and running well ahead of the new system's release.

No big shock I guess. It would be a bigger shock if they didnt have someting up and running for testing yet.

It's nice that we're finally getting a proper service. One we thought we were originally getting back with the PS2.

and its free

Or so they would have you believe :O

Yeah, I always assumed they were going for something similar to the XBL model?

They said the basic service is free.

EXACTLY. THEY REALLY SHOULD SAY *FREE, BECAUSE THERE'S DEFINITELY SOME FINE PRINT THAT THEY DON'T NECESSARILY WANT YOU TO READ. :o

WHICH BASICALLY MEANS NOTHING........JUST LIKE WITH THE "SILVER" 'LIVE'.

the basic service has alot of features such as video chat, ranking, friends lists etc.

THE ONLY THING YOU CAN'T DO WITH 'LIVE' SILVER, IS PLAY MULTIPLAYER GAMES.

The above statement could be applied to either PS3's online model or XBOX 360 Live.

Since E3 last week, a number of sites have speculated that the PlayStation 3's "Basic" online service will not include gaming. However, SCEA has now confirmed that online gaming will in fact be free.

The doubt began when Kaz Hirai did not specifically mention online play as a basic, free service. Instead, his slide listed everything but, including friends lists, video chat, ranking and more.

This morning, however, an Sony Computer Entertainment America PR Manager had this to say:

"Please note that online gaming will be free right out of the box."

Online play is one of the features the free (Silver) Xbox Live service does not include, and so free online play on the PS3 may be one of the only features that differentiates Sony's online service from Xbox Live.

It's important to note that certain Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) games may still have some sort of fee.

Until SONY release film details regarding the LIVE service consider everything they say to be B.S.

ALLOW ME TO EDUCATE YOU ON A COUPLE POINTS YOU'RE OBVIOUSLY UNABLE TO GLEAN FROM THAT ARTICLE:

  1. 'SONY' IS STILL GOING THE ROUTE OF THE PS2, IN GIVING DEVELOPERS FREEDOM TO IMPLEMENT THE SERVER/NETWORK OF THEIR CHOICE. THERE WON'T BE A UNIFIED SERVER BASE, AS THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN WITH 'LIVE'. WHAT THIS MEANS IS, 'SONY' CAN ONLY SPEAK FOR THEIR FIRST-PARTY GAMES, WHEN CLAIMING THE ONLINE PLAY WILL BE "FREE, OUT OF THE BOX". THEY AREN'T REALLY LYING.......JUST TELLING YOU THE PART OF THE TRUTH THEY WANT YOU TO HEAR.
  2. THE FACT THAT IT WILL BE "FREE" MEANS SOMETHING HAS TO SUFFER OR BE SACRIFICED, AS THEY'VE ALREADY GOT BILLIONS INVESTED IN THE 'PS3', AND HAVE NO ROOM TO "ABSORB" ANYMORE COSTS. WHAT THIS LIKELY MEANS FOR THE CONSUMER IS, YOU'LL BE PAYING MORE THAN YOU SHOULD FOR EVERYTHING THAT ISN'T "FREE". NOT TO MENTION, THE OVERALL QUALITY OF THE ONLINE GAMEPLAY WILL BE BAD. YOU ONLY NEED TO PLAY 'EA' GAMES ON 'LIVE', TO KNOW THIS WILL BE THE CASE; THEIR "SPECIAL" AGREEMENT WITH 'MS' ALLOWS THEM TO MAINTAIN/CONTROL THEIR OWN SERVER NETWORK.......AND IT SUCKS ASS.

Jesus... Just imagine a LIVE service where you have a dozen 'E.A's' all doing their own thing.

*shudders*

:(

I hope it wont be that bad.

I HAVE PLAYED IT........IT WILL BE NO DIFFERENT THAN THE 'PS2' OR 'EA' GAMES ON 'LIVE'.

BUT GO AHEAD AND GIVE 'SONY' THE "BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT"........THAT'S WHAT MILLIONS OF MORONS HAVE BEEN DOING FOR YEARS.

you dont know **** about the PS3's online service,so shut up.

I love how people who have only played on Xbox live thing that EA servers are the norm for everything non-Xbox live. I mean get a clue people. EA is renowned for their horrible servers, as much as you'd all love think otherwise, the servers aside from EA are all very good on the open network side of the fence when it comes to PS2.
