what!??! where's this thread?

I'm not sure, since this is the Astronomy thread..i think it may be put back up.With the vastness of the Universe, you would think such things would be more common.Or it could be..it's just we haven't seen them yet.

Bump this thread! you guys are not into space!?! :cmad:

yeah but you don't think it's interesting the planets they have discovered?! Honestly, the 10 planets they have discovered, the number one planet is very interesting.

Europa, a moon of Jupiter

europa_galileo_big.jpg

Although the phase of this moon might appear familiar, the moon itself might not. In fact, this gibbous phase shows part of Jupiter's moon Europa. The robot spacecraft Galileo captured this image mosaic during its mission orbiting Jupiter from 1995 - 2003. Visible are plains of bright ice, cracks that run to the horizon, and dark patches that likely contain both ice and dirt. Raised terrain is particularly apparent near the terminator, where it casts shadows. Europa is nearly the same size as Earth's Moon, but much smoother, showing few highlands or large impact craters. Evidence and images from the Galileo spacecraft, indicated that liquid oceans might exist below the icy surface. To test speculation that these seas hold life, ESA has started preliminary development of the Jovian Europa Orbiter, a spacecraft proposed to orbit Europa. If the surface ice is thin enough, a future mission might drop hydrobots to burrow into the oceans and search for life.

a closer look of Europa....

Alot of Scientists think there may be some kind of life in the seas beneath the ice of Europa. One can only imagine what it would be like to stand on the icy ground and look up into the blackness of the infinite Universe..

I always thought that Titan was the planet that could best sustain life. There was a reason why Stan Lee chose that moon as the one in the solar system for some of his characters to come from. Also, scientists have discovered a couple of pyramids on mars that are very close to the face on Mars as well. But as far as life being on Europa, it wouldn't surprise me. Micro life is everywhere, but the question is, what would happen if we were exposed to it or brought it here. It could wipe out all of life on earth or it could be a real life blob scenerio becuase you don't know how it would react to the air on this planet.

NASA Daily Pictures

"Explanation: As the New Horizons spacecraft sweeps through the Solar System, it is taking breathtaking images of the planets. In February of last year, New Horizons passed Jupiter and the ever-active Jovian moon Io. In this montage, Jupiter was captured in three bands of infrared light making the Great Red Spot look white. Complex hurricane-like ovals, swirls, and planet-ringing bands are visible in Jupiter's complex atmosphere. Io is digitally superposed in natural color. Fortuitously, a plume was emanating from Io's volcano Tvashtar. Frost and sulfuric lava cover the volcanic moon, while red-glowing lava is visible beneath the blue sunlight-scattering plume. The robotic New Horizons spacecraft is on track to arrive at Pluto in 2015"

they should have the next space sci fi movie take place on IO, :woot: ...mars has been done to death.

Has anyone here ever seen a meteor shower? I have a telescope but I haven't seen a shower yet. A few falling stars & the moon up close but I've yet to see the rings of Saturn or my favorite.....................Titan! :cmad:

Have y'all discussed the big antimatter discovery from a few days ago?

Do tell please sir. Haven't heard about this.
