Comedy Spaceballs Sequel from Mel Brooks and Josh Gad

What is there to even parody anymore?

In all likelihood they'll parody the prequel films and leave room - if successful - to take on the new trilogy as well.

Basically - the newer Star Wars films.

This is coming way, way, way too late. Maybe if this had been made in like....2005 or even better the 90s, but 2024 a sequel to Spaceballs? Yeah, you missed the window by like....multiple decades

Haha, important part of my childhood so I’ll give this a chance. Will be almost impossible to capture the same magic in this era but let’s see what they can do.

They had me until Josh Gad. :weeping:

This news aged me 13 years.

This is the second project that Gad is developing that is a sequel to a Rick Morganis movie. They were supposed to do the sequel to Honey I Shrunk the Kids but I think Covid killed it.

They missed two windows around the time of the Star Wars prequels and the sequels. The most opportune time for this would have been around 1999-2000 or 2015-2016.

At this point, why bother? John Candy, Joan Rivers and Dom DeLuise are gone and Rick Moranis is retired for all intents and purposes. On top of that, legacy comedy sequels have a very low success rate.

Were they finally getting Rick to come back to act in it? 🥺

Josh Gad is taking over for Candy and Melissa for Joan.

Yes, and then that a**hole punched him in the face on the streets of New York and he went into hiding again like the Legendary Pokémon he is. :weeping:

I'm just speculating.

If Mel Brooks was really smart, he would have capitalized on that LOTR and Harry Potter craze back in the 2000's instead of letting those idiots from Epic Movie do it. :o
As meh as Robin Hood: Men in Tights and Dracula: Dead and Loving It may be, at least compared to peak Brooks parody in the '70s, they're still leagues beyond that Friedberg and Seltzer nonsense that plagued the 2000's. So even a meh Brooks fantasy parody would have been the better alternative.
