Homecoming Spider-Man (2017) News and Official Photos Thread - NO DISCUSSION

Thanks Webhead.

I'll add a couple of tweets from @elmayimbe here because he has been right a lot of times when it comes to superhero news lately. Consider it a rumor, but I think he got this one right:

Umberto Gonzalez ‏@elmayimbe 8m8 minutes ago .@SamStrike probably got cast in either X-MEN: APOCALYPSE or DEADPOOL because (cont)...

Umberto Gonzalez ‏@elmayimbe 7m7 minutes ago SPIDER-MAN is still actively casting & reading a lot of teen actors to play 15 yrs old. Yes, they're going that young per agency sources. RT

So there's that. El Mayimbe's track record has been flawless lately, this dude is probably cast as someone from X-Men: Apocalypse, I'd speculate maybe Warren Worthington III.

As for El Mayimbe's REAL scoop: "SPIDER-MAN is still actively casting & reading a lot of teen actors to play 15 yrs old. Yes, they're going that young per agency sources." I can live with that. Notice that DOESN'T mean that the actors would be actual 15 years old.

Moving on, I hear they are looking a 16-17 year old white kids for the part of Spider-Man. BadAssDigest broke that Mateus Ward from Weeds had auditioned for the role. He seems about the right age for what Marvel/Sony are looking for but certainly he can’t be the only one on the docket, right?

Of course not.

Details are sparse and I’m sure we’ll have more going forward if we can get some people to spill some names, but Asa Butterfield might have Reddit suggested his way into an audition. Or they were always going to look at Asa either way and he just happened to be making coy comments about wanting the part on Reddit. Either way, might as well through Asa Butterfield on the “people considered” list. It’s another 16/17 year old brunette white guy, seems to fit.

Then again, he does turn 18 in a matter of weeks. Hurry Asa!

Stay tuned on 16/17 white guy watch 2015.

Exclusive: Marvel's first post-Secret Wars titles revealed

Marvel Comics has yet to ramp up its Secret Wars event, but the publisher has given WIRED.co.uk the first official look at two series set to launch in the wake of this summer's universes-shattering crossover.

While the main Secret Wars event sees every one of Marvel's alternate realities condensed into a single 'Battleworld', with disparate versions of popular characters clashing, these first two titles give a hint at the aftermath.

All-New, All-Different Avengers gives away one of the biggest hints at the outcome -- Miles Morales, the Spider-Man of the "Ultimate" imprint, now looks to be on the main Marvel Earth, and fighting alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Sam Wilson as Captain America and the female Thor are still in their heroic identities, joined by an Iron Man once again rocking the familiar red and gold, and The Vision, whose profile is set to rise in this summer's Avengers: Age of Ultron. Spider-Man, Nova, and Ms Marvel seem to be making up a junior squad for the team.

A few other things to consider:

The line-up isn't just a big shake up for the Avengers roster, it's big news because it confirms something that many comic fans have been expecting ever since Marvel announced their Secret Wars event would bring about the creation of a new Marvel universe: that Miles Morales would be transitioning over from the "Ultimate" line of Marvel comics to the new main universe.

It's a surprisingly young team as well — with Kamala Khan, Miles and Sam Alexander all teenagers, the Avengers haven't been this youthful in a while.

These new Avengers will make their debut on May 2nd for Free Comic Book Day, ahead of the team returning in full after the end of the Secret Wars event later this year.

With The Vision, Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, Thor, Nova, Captain America… And upfront that looks like Miles Morales, the Ultimate Spider-Man.

Which might also indicate, as much speculated, that the character will be joining the ongoing Marvel Universe. Whether a survivor of the Ultimate universe, a member of a new merged reality, a new universe to replace the 616, who knows. Well, obviously, they do.

But it does appear as if Miles Morales will be part of that Marvel universe going forward. Unless of course that is someone else in the suit.

Could it be a new movie-friendly Peter Parker? Or even someone else from across the Spider-Verse?

And… if it’s all-new, all-different Avengers, who is in the Iron Man suit?

The comic debuts on Free Comic Book Day, the first Saturday in May…

What’s the Holy Grail, Jeff? What are you chasing at the minute?

The Holy Grail, right now for people in my position, is Spider-Man. The world is waiting to see who that’s going to be. We know it’s going to be a sixteen year old kid. All of the names that have leaked so far are white kids, but does that mean Spider-Man is definitely going to be white? No it doesn’t.

I’ve seen you make this claim before. Are you basing this on something external, or something internal? Have you actually got some information that tells you they’re not going with Peter Parker, or not going with a white actor?

I have talked to representatives for one of the actors who has been talked about a lot for this role. They said “I think they’re going to use a [non-white actor.]” But that was four or six weeks ago. I don’t know my Spider-Man mythology… Peter Parker can totally be black. It wouldn’t mean that if they cast a black actor it has to be Miles Morales.

I think they’re looking at both black and white actors. Am I ninety, ninety-five percent sure as I was a few weeks ago? No. Certainly not. I would walk that back, but I do think they are looking at non-white actors. I don’t believe that only caucasian teenagers are going in to read for that role.

If you get this scoop on Spider-Man, how will you feel? What do you get for scoring that?

That’s the thing. You get the glory, the internet glory and bragging rights, and get to see The Wrap article linked in all the other articles across the internet, and maybe you get to start a Facebook or Twitter trend. But then you go back to the next story, and the next story isn’t going to be as big as Spider-Man. Just like in the movie business where you’re only as good as your last movie, I literally had someone on the marketing side of our site tell me yesterday, “You’re only as good as your last story.” That is the sad truth of the business.

Trade reporter Jeff Sneider on how the other half lives

This Friday's Meet The Movie Press Podcast show was quite interesting to Spider-Man fans. Jeff Sneider spills some quite interesting beans regarding the hunt for a new Spider-Man:

Here's a transcription of sorts:

"From what I was told they did start seeing actors of color, and now the things seem to have narrow down a little bit to seem that only young white actors are going in, you know, 15 to 18 [year old actors]".

"They are looking for, for --- you know, that aren't many star who can carry something as big as Spider-Man, one who could, you know, one who you know has that kind of profile is, may or may not be Asa Butterfield, the star of Ender's Game and he's got Tim Burton's movie Ms. Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children."

"Listen, this is just things I've heard, because again, if I thought it was really a done deal, it would be on TheWrap. It's a rumor that I've heard from multiple people and including you know some agency folks, he's certainly not the only one, just think of movies of the past 5 years that have young leads".

"You know then again, that's just one of the names, you know we've heard a young TV actor on a very big hit TV sitcom [...] the initials would be N. G. [...] I've heard that he's got in, and then there's an one name that we've heard was denied so there's really no point of putting out there, but you know, star of a big... I guess it was a big Warner Bros movie".

Well, that's more "news" that've get on quite some time, let's run down an analysis on this:

  • It's been narrow down for mostly 15 to 18 year old white actors;
  • Asa Butterfield is one of the names been tossing around;
  • Nolan Gould is the second name that Sneider mentions that "got in" to audition, like Asa Butterfield;
  • An young actor that was the star of a Warner Bros movie was denied, what does this mean? Either way, it seems this one is out, who would it be? Besides Interstellar's Tim Chalamet, I can't think on anyone that is young that would fit on that bill. Any guesses?

PS: I know this isn't NEWS, just like Jeff Sneider said. It's basically rumors, but I'm trying to keep this as a repository of things that can give a picture to the boards at what point the casting of Spider-Man is right now.

Stan Lee Happy Spider-Man Now In Marvel Cinematic Universe, Says Andrew Garfield Did A Great Job

In an exclusive interview with Stan Lee at today’s Gillette event, Comicbook.com asked Lee if Spider-Man coming home to the Marvel Cinematic Universe made him happy.

“Of course, the more we can get them all together like the Avengers, it’s fun,” answered Lee. “And the public, they love those kinds of movies. And so do I.”

When we asked if he would have liked to have seen them keep Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, Lee replied, “I don’t know if I’m easy to please. Andrew Garfield did a great job.”

Lee also added that he thought Tobey Maguire did a wonderful job as well, before joking, “Maybe it’s an easy role to play. I don’t know. Maybe I ought to try out for it. Maybe I could be Uncle Ben.”

This is what I worry about with Spider-Man and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios and Sony have made an unprecedented deal allowing Sony to continue owning Spidey, but to allow him to be part of the MCU. But what if things change? Sony’s not letting go of Spidey any time soon - what if Spider-Man gets Rom’ed?

Today I spoke with Kevin Feige at the Avengers: Age of Ultron press junket and this was one of the first things I asked him about. His reply was reassuring:

For as forward thinking as we always try to be, there’s only so far you can tend to think, and our plan is fairly solid for those four or five years. I’ve never considered it in the Rom Spaceknight vernacular, necessarily..

So much of the anxiety at Marvel has been ‘Who do we have contracts with, who is still involved’? You want to plot out all these years of imagination based on amazing comics, but you need real people to make time in their lives to do, and to make career decisions to do it. That has been the hardest thing to manage… but for the first time, that’s all settled. It’s all settled through [2019]. It’s all set. And we’re able to focus now just on [telling stories].

It’s everything we announced last October, and we’ve added your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to the mix… and it’s all set.

Kevin Feige Compares Spider-Man Reboot To Batman Begins

"When he puts that mask on in the comics, he has a non-stop wit that is almost as troublesome to the bad guys he is fighting as his webs and agility," Feige added. "And we feel we really haven't seen that in the movies. That's just the tip of the iceberg."

Hearing Feige talking about Spider-Man is music to my ears. :woot:

I want to remind people of several things....

The title of this thread includes the words NO DISCUSSION....for those of you that do not understand what that means....it means DO NOT DISCUSS the news posted. Do not comment on them. Do not talk about them. Do not refute them. Do not rebut them. Do not agree with them. Do not complain about them.

If you see a post that you do not think should be in here....report it. Do not make a post in here saying that the post does not belong in here....because you are then discussing something in the thread that specifically says NO DISCUSSION.

Several of you have been making a habit of discussing things in here....do It again and you get probation....maybe then you will start to learn the meaning of the words NO DISCUSSION.

"Yeah [I’d like to have worked on Spider-Man], he’s the poster child. He’s the first book I read, and I think that’s true for a lot of people. There are so many things I would want to do, even with these characters [The Avengers], even with just one of these characters. But the fact of the matter is: they’re doing fine, and I’ve probably got to move on."
