Homecoming Spider-Man Homecoming (2017) General Discussion - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 113

Just managed to see this a second time. Sooooo good. Tom is the Peter Parker of the forever.

I'm laughing at Penis Parker, that's cringe material, why can't I help but laugh?

So he skips school, hits the head of a guy on the roof of his own car by web, breaks a couple of fences, picks up wire of accessory lights, spies on the girl he has a crush on in the pool, he stares at her for long every time he sees her in school, skips a quiz, skips detention. Deserts Liz on their date, stole Flash's car and damaged it. If this was Andrew's Peter to do this stuff, he's a dick, while this guy is a fun dork. I don't understand audience reviews sometimes.

How does this guy get a concussion from a fall that is mild for Spider-Man? That truck Toomes robbed probably moves slower than the one Shocker and pal were in when they did the deal with Prowler.

Metal detector found foreign object in a backpack, and none of the security guards was the wiser.

I agree with Tony when it comes to the ferry.

MJ early: "I have no friends"
MJ later: "All my friends call me MJ"
Her art is fun.

I love how some of the tracks in this movie pay homage to some of Danny Elfman's score, and one pays homage to a 90s cartoon theme.

I saw the homages to Spider-Man 2, they're nice.

I know people are leaning on Scorpion with Michael Mando but honestly, he could be a fabulous Venom. I'm not crazy about Eddie Brock but I adore the Venom design and his fights with Spiderman. The only issue is how they would do that when they're already doing Venom in a different universe, but it's still doable
Sony will redo Venom, so we don't need to see two versions of Venom rolling around simultaneously on the big screen.

So he skips school

Peter had absence issues in the comics too.

hits the head of a guy on the roof of his own car by web

By mistake. This is something he's done in both the comics and other iterations, one of my favorite was when he mistakenly webbed up Electro in TSSM assuming that he had robbed something.

breaks a couple of fences, picks up wire of accessory lights

Nothing new. Spider-Man has always caused some kind of property damage in the comics during his battles.

spies on the girl he has a crush on in the pool, he stares at her for long every time he sees her in school

He looks at her for a moment in a realization that he's missing out on the 'good' times of just being a regular kid. Spying? Um, no. And looking at a girl he's got a crush on in HS...any guy that refutes ever doing this is lying. At least he wasn't snapping photos of her.

skips a quiz, skips detention

Again, Peter's schooling has always suffered due to his Spider-Man duties.

Deserts Liz on their date

Should I post every single time Peter has had to ditch someone in his personal life when duty was calling? Gwen, MJ, Flash, Harry, etc. They've all been thru Peter and his "where'd Peter go?"

stole Flash's car and damaged it

Borrowed is more like it. He did damage it though. Not anything as noteworthy like sinking Johnny's Spider-Mobile in the river.

Hopefully there will be more progression to Flash Thompson in the next movie.

Spidey went to Johnny to help build the car for himself, and it drowned because of that second Mysterio causing an illusion to show a road where the pier ends.

As for the rest of the stuff, I made a :cwink:

Damn, you killed it.

I need to state what I like about this movie, and not only the Vulture and his crew, and how for once they made a connection between multiple villains in one movie that is natural and does not hinder the story of a Spider-Man movie.

For once, we finally see Peter Parker actually work on the web formula, something all the live action incarnations prior did not touch upon, and I do mean starting with Nicholas Hammond.

Peter expresses annoyance to an old male mentor without raising his voice in his face (Tobey yelled his "Then stop pretending to be" line).

More scenes for Flash Thompson.

Liz Allan finally brought to the big screen.

Interrogation.

Michelle's art.

SCORPION, FINALLY.

Hannibal Buress as the coach.

Monument rescue, typical Parker luck done right.

Getting out from under all the rubble.

The use of recycled Chitauri tech. But this brings up another thing I don't like, and I did not think of it earlier; "Why explode now? What exactly causes the explosion? Where's all the other stuff?"

For once, you know that Aunt May knows without waiting for her to wait for Peter to admit it so she'd finally reveal that she knew.

The villain respecting Peter at the end came as natural without the need for him to die or be told by an indirect link to a boss "We're getting that kid" and a reply of "NO".

Suburb houses nostalgia.

That is all I can think of for now.

Lots of good stuff in here but I bolded the parts that I felt were really good points.

I know most everyone's pick is the rubble scene as the best part in the movie, that or the scene with Toomes driving to the dance, but, my favorite scene is still the Washington Monument rescue. A very tense scene and one where you aren't even really sure that Peter will succeed or exactly how he's going to succeed. It was really well done, imo. Up to that point he'd been having all kinds of issues with his practical application of hero duty...he was failing quite a bit or at least making many mistakes. So when this scene arrives it added to the tension. I like how they made it so Peter was not like this instant successful hero--he really had to work at it.

Radioactivity caused the Chitauri stone to explode at the monument. It was exposed to x-rays at the security check.

As for the explosion on the ferry, I guess that was due to the malfunctioning weapon, not the Chitauri tech per se.

It will be the scene I rewatch over and over.

The ferry part is one thing I didn't miss. :)

Given what we saw, I imagine the reason the power cores didn't explode previously was that Toomes kept them suitably shielded from radiation. I bet he found out to do that the hard way, though. Note that the only time we saw an undamaged core detonate was when a loose, unshielded core was run through an x-ray machine. The other times involved the machinery they were powering being abused in various ways.

I went to a signing/discussion with the Marvel Studios Visual Development team yesterday for the Art of Homecoming book. Few things in here I thought were cool.

1. Sort of confirms a trilogy in high school.

2. This excerpt from Watts that somewhat hints at villains for the sequels and the photos next to it.

They're other ideas for salvaged goods mixed with chitauri tech, etc. The last one is prettty cool in particular.

I got it the other day and I definitely think so. I always love seeing/reading how they went about designing everything. Some really interesting concepts in there. That and the fact that the whole book is designed as if it's a yearbook, is great.

From the Birth of Venom storyline, spoiler tagged for size:

If there is one thing I forgot about that issue it's the title. I like it more now.
