No Way Home Spider-Man: No Way Home General News & Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS)

BvS was pretty close. That movie was pretty secretive, granted we still had set leaks and stuff and knew the basic concept behind the movie. Endgame was VERY secretive up until opening night. I think we all KNEW the movie was about traveling back in time (due to toy leaks and stuff) but we didnt know specifics. They kept that plot closely guarded. NWH is definitely up there though, besides Alfred Molina, they havent officially announced any villain castings which is unheard of.

Wasn't there a plot leak for Endgame as well though before it came out?

I remember it because people were complaining about it and stating that the movie would suck, but then it came out and voilá. Who would have known judging things without proper footage, detail and context is a bad thing? :hehe:

I'm just... tired of waiting for anything.

Yea Endgame plot leaked close to the movie being released. Some of it was off, but that was mostly cause the leaker didn't 100% understand how the time travel worked lol. So the way he worded some things didn't make sense. But it was mostly spot on.

Endgame was kind of average though lol. If you remove the last epic fight the movie is….average. Too many unnecessary scenes and tons of missed opportunities. Actually loved it when it first came out but I think that was due to the fan boy in me geeking out. Then going back to rewatch it had me going “Did I actually like this?”

Infinity War= instant classic though. Amazing emotional movie.

Damn I remember those days. The paranoia/fear of even going on any forum or scrolling through YouTube cause spoilers and leaks were everywhere.

I'm speaking on more of a general sense. So many people were ready to give up on that movie just because of that plot leak, and then look what happened.

I am wondering right now of this ends up delayed now. Look at Black Widow's steep drop. The BO hasn't even recovered for a Marvel movie. This is way bigger than Black Widow, sure. But I our current environment, will this be a billion dollar film? I can see Sony still deeming the BO as of now not ready. Unless future releases really pick up the BO revenue

Then might as well announce a delay right now instead of waiting and withholding a first look for the next two to three months. People are starting to get tired of the long-winded secrecy and with the very likely possibility in the air of a delay happening now, better to do it sooner than later.

At the very least then people can stop hoping to see anything this year.

I'm beginning to wonder about a delay myself actually. I suspected one of the reasons they're releasing some of the toy images is because a new trailer isn't coming anytime soon.

Maybe they hope it's enough to wet appetites , but I don't think so.

The toy release images may also just be because toys are coming and they are too far along to delay those. Black Widow's toys came out similarly last year for that reason, and we already had Shang-Chi's come out and that isn't until September now (but was due for July). But the movie can be delayed even if toys come out as planned

I think Sony may wait to see what it looks like in September before delaying Spider-Man. Venom though could be delayed sooner. December is still 3 months away at that point, and a lot of big films are set for September. If BO returns for big releases still look like this, then I think Spider-Man is going to be delayed

How did we get to the point of going lower than rock bottom in expectations for this godforsaken marketing? :funny:

I think Black Widow's 2nd weekend and F9's good for a pandemic but far below the money printing billions they were doing served as kind of an ice bath on people's rising BO optimism. Which is perfectly valid. These were possible billion dollar films in old world. Now they are making like half that. It's a tough pill to swallow, especially for studios that invest 200+ mil into these movies

Only way things could get worse is if the NWH film files all end up being accidentally deleted or burned and the movie somehow becomes lost.

Or that it's actually always been a manhunt movie and they spread fake rumors online to get people in seats. Either one could actually happen at this point, I am that pessimistic and confused right now.

Would be pretty cool if the trailer started like a 2009 trailer with voiceover as if it was for Spider-Man 4 and then halfway through it switches to this multiverse thing, but from Maguire's Spidey point of view. Like an actual trailer from a parallel universe in which Spider-Man 4 actually happened.

People get ahold of yourselves :funny:.

Believe me i am ANTSY for them to finally reveal this thing but its not getting delayed. I think the pure fact that this appears to be a holiday themed movie signifies that they will move Heaven and Earth to get it out by Christmas. But even then by all indications production seems to be running fine. They finished filming back in March, im sure theres tons of CGI, effects and editing that are being polished up before they release the teaser.

All will be fine, my friends.

Btw, its not just Spiderman they're doing this with. Y’all noticed Sony’s been eerily quiet on the Venom 2 front? That thing is out in TWO months! I mean we got that little teaser but they really should be ramping up marketing and promotion right now.

No chance.

I am not saying I can see it being delayed cause I am antsy for footage. I think out of the regulars here, I am prob one of the most patient. I am looking at this based on how antsy Sony has been to put anything in a theater until things look good and mixing that with current BO trends. I highly doubt Sony is happy with where the BO is currently. There is still time for it to recover prior to December for sure. I am just not sure it actually will. I honestly think the BO will take quite a while to get back to pre pandemic levels. I don't think it will be instant like many thought/hoped it would

Look at Venom 2 though. You can tell Sony is seriously holding back on the promotional front for that movie and its two months out. And thats supposed to be a mega blockbuster for them after how the first one performed.

I think overall theyre dialing back on marketing and promotional costs big time for these things.

Exactly. Why hold back promotional material when it should ramp up? Only reason would be if they are considering on delaying it. Which I can see them doing.

I think Shang-Chi will come out as an experiment to see how well the BO is doing now that we are kind of hitting a very late Summer type slate. But I can see Sony moving Venom 2 anytime. Maybe they keep it there, but I don't think it is a guarantee

The only thing I'll say about in opposition to a delay happening bc of BW's 2nd week slump and ppl now thinking the BO isn't back as much as we thought, is that the majority of that decline was likely due to D+ and BW's availability there

BW did insane opening weekend numbers, and for a slightly less popular character, and the 'origin' for that character, and for a character that's already dead (I loved the movie lol, just sayin)

People were clearly willing to go to the theaters, and in numbers that basically line up with pre-pandemic stuff (I'm not sure if BW would've even had a better OW than this pre-covid, but maybe?) So I think if there was no option to watch this at home, those numbers wouldn't have dropped quite as much.

And also, this movie just could have inherently been the type of instance where a big 2nd week drop was inevitable no matter when it released -- Die hard MCU fans all packed the theaters for their first new theatrical release in ages, but the GA viewers didn't view this (and maybe never would have) as a must see film . . .

Idk, I know covid's having a bit of a resurgence, but I don't think the BO and theaters are quite as far away from normal, and the ability to be packed, stay packed, and yield huge BO numbers as it might seem
