They could make Tobey's Spider-man an aspiring scientist married to MJ and Garfield's Spider-man a teacher which sets them both up as older versions of Peter on slightly different, but still uplifting paths.

Both those would be fine, but in general I don't think killing either Spider-Man would really do anything good. Garfield dying would bother me less cause I am less attached, but in general I don't think it is a good narrative move. We just had Tony die in Endgame, and trying to kill either alternate Spider-Man comes off as trying to do the same thing, only it has less meat behind it. Sure, we the audience may be attached to X Spider-Man, but Peter in the movie would only have met them just now. It just doesn't have the same impact that moment where Tony died does. Ultimately, I think the story is better served by each Spider-Man somehow inspiring the Holland Peter in a way relevant to the themes of the movie.

I feel like fans always default to having another character die in order to teach another character a lesson, and that is not always the best path in a story. Stakes and character change can be achieved in other ways that can be even more creative than some stock death scene.

I guess I better get ready to get all teary eyed when Maguire pops up. I was almost 14 when Spider-Man 3 came out.

Personally i have no attachment to Maguire. but then i was 17 when the first one came out and i could never relate to his Peter Parker, and was always frustrated by his no personality Spider-man.

I don't hate him, i just don't feel that nostalgia.

I'm the opposite haha. his version and the films themselves had a huge impact on me as a kid and in my early teens, so seeing something like this happen is something I never thought was possible.

As a Spiderman fan who waited since the early 90s for the first Spiderman film to made and released, I'm pretty excited by a potential live action Spiderverse finale for part three.

I have zero resistance to the potential of Maguire, Garfield, and Holland all sharing the screen together in addition to other characters.

It would potentially be an all star cast of first rate actors with a story handled by Feige and Co.

Unless the script, plot, and story stink, I really don't see a downside .

On the subject of sacrifices, I don't know about anyone else, but killing Tobey Spider-Man would be an absolute turn off for me. Why do y’all seem to want to kill off one of my heroes from my teenage years? The only end Raimi Spider-Man should ever get in this movie is a happy one. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man is one of the biggest reasons the franchise is one of the biggest in cinema right now. Pay that version its proper respect. Death to me isn't a tribute.

Indeed. I would be happy for a very happy end to Tobey's, but if he has to go then I really want it to be a dramatic sacrifical one, you know, paying him the tribute he deserves.
I really just don't want to show him for a second there and how his universe is destroyed or some stupid thing like that ...

Wow! Nah, man .. just leave it be with Andrew and Tobey for now ... Seriouslly, we don't need that now. Years down the line - yes. Now - no.

I would be surprised if they killed off Tobey or any other Spider-Men, honestly. I was just adding my 2 cents. Marvel has been super stingy on killing characters. We get mostly fake deaths in the MCU. Only really a handful have stuck, and who knows if Pietro or Nat or Tony don't end up back soon. Also, Feige I am sure has an attachment to that series especially. He has stated SM2 is the benchmark of excellence many times prior.

I'd be so mad if that happened

Yes, I totally get you. Same thing I was trying to say. If one of them has to go, it has to be some time down the road. Not in the third Holland movie.

They just make MJ diverse like Flash to make Social Justice Warrior quiet. Same like Flash. They are the same person.

I know. But it's mad they already have (comics) blonde Liz Allen as Caribbean and Ned as their ethnic diversity without necessarily needing to change Flash from being white and MJ a redhead. Social justice warriors are ridiculous sometimes....

In fairness, Queens is one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in the country and Peter having an ethnically diverse class is more realistic than everyone being white....I have a lot of issues with MCU Spider-Man and especially his supporting cast, but I don’t know that that’s one of them.

If they do this, they better do more than just a one off. Have tobey and sam do spidey 4. Have garfield continue with webb on tasm 3 (black suit). You can then have them interact with venom/morbius/kraven/etc.

You can have spider-gwen with garfield. He can be the adult teacher. Maguire can be married with dunst and maybe even kids.
Then down the line they can have all of them join up with other spideys (miles, spider gwen, etc) to fight the morlun family.

So many options. If you do this....do this all the way.

Eh I know nothing is confirmed yet and if it does end up being true, I trust Feige and co to do a good job, but I gotta say all this news is really killing my hype for the movie. Once we start getting proper details and better idea on what the story is gonna be, I feel I'll probably start warming up.

And mind you, Im not against a Spider-Verse movie, just don't think this is the time to do it. With everything that's already been setup, it just seems like that are just cramming in a lot of stuff.

I'd be more excited to see Garfield back than anything else. Tobey seemingly got his happy ending and Garfield is still my favorite live action Spidey. I'm not at all excited about the possibility of the Spiderverse in this one though.

I'm all up for seeing a Spider-Verse movie as long as it's executed well, be it SM3 or down the line with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield joining in.

I'm so curious as to the tonal direction of this movie, and how it'll fit in with Homecoming and the other one. I thought Homecoming was solid, but FFH lost me with the whole... meme-ification of it all.

I think it'll be the same tonal direction of HC and FFH. In other words, light hearted with lots of humor except with bigger action set pieces and easter eggs to the Sony Spiderman films and other MCU films.

I suspect several of the hanging threads from HC and FFH will play a part in the film even if it is a multiverse film.

I actually think it will lean alot more heavy on Holland's Spiderman with the multiverse intruding on his world ,as opposed to Holland being thrown into the Raimi or Webb verse.

It's still going to be a Tom Holland Spiderman film , so I don't have concerns about Holland's Peter somehow being overshadowed or forgotten.

It's just that it's gonna be on a bigger scale and scope than other Spiderman films have been.

It's going to do something the other seven live action Spiderman films to date haven't done.

I find that potential prospect exciting.

Totally with you. Im more excited about the movies after SM3. Having a solo garfield movie, solo maguire movie, spider gwen, miles, etc

Maguire's Peter had personality just not the one some fans wanted. People dismiss his portrayal because he wasn't the confident, swaggering kid from the comics, but that doesn't mean Maguire didn't bring personality to the role.

I mean it was him playing Spidey that gave the genre life when it was almost circling the drain. Also it was a time when studios and audiences had a clear idea of how they felt a superhero should act. Look at some of the leads of similar films from around the time and you'll see what I mean such as James Marsden as Cyclops, Ioan Gruffud as Reed Richards and Brandon Routh as Superman; all more or less restricted to playing goody two shoes with little room to maneuver anything else in.

All things considered I think Maguire did his best with what he had and gave the audience a classic performance that they still remember. I think they'll lose their minds seeing Maguire again.
