No Way Home Spider-Man: No Way Home Spoiler Discussion Thread

This. Arad’s involvement is grossly overstated. I would say the late Ziskin deserves more credit, she actually got Raimi and Webb onboard.

Wait a second !?

I wasn’t really paying attention during the credits but there’s really no mention of Raimi or Webb? Might be a small deal to some but that’s kinda heartbreaking.

After this movie Im tired of Peter in high school, Andrew and Tobey and now Tom show Spiderman plays better as an adult in college etc.

After seeing the movie, I really liked the movie, but must ask…did it kind of drag in the beginning for anyone else besides myself? I suppose me not being a fan of the previous two entries made the scenes before the bridge kind of slow to me. I WILL give credit for having ONE MCU Spider-Man movie where Tony Stark doesn’t drive the narrative…I ALMOST wanted to see them double down on it and find some way to make Tony Stark responsible for the Raimi and Webb baddies somehow just for laughs.

Also, I’m surprised Peter went on to perpetually prove that he WAS Spider-Man immediately after Mysterio’s video came out by doing Spider-Man stuff unmasked…I’m surprised that there wasn’t even a debate on the other side (Peter Parker can’t be Spider-Man). Also how does the spell affect things like video and print? Because they didn’t go out of their way to debunk it, it still would be out there.

However I AM glad for a fresh start for college, as the MCU kids always grated on my nerves. Heck I’d say that simply KNOWING Spider-Man was Peter didn’t put them in danger, but Peter dragging them into his superhero affairs was more of a problem (I.e. dragging them to Strange’s place to…tape a tablet to his chest). This is why it seemed like college acceptance was the biggest deal rather than enemies going after them.

You’re not alone. Probably in the minority around here but definitely not alone. The opening portion of the movie dragged at times…no question. I think as the film ages more people will see that. Right now the hype is pretty high and everyone is caught in it. I really liked the film though but much like you, felt there were portions that dragged at the start. Still a really fun ride though and one that I’ve warmed up too more and more after more viewings.

The identity was one of the biggest missed opportunities in the movie as well. I’ve said it before but making college the catalyst for going to strange was a mistake. A silly one at that. It would have been so much better if they would have spent some time really making the world around Peter horrifying and terrifying for those he loves as well. That’s probably my biggest complaint for the movie.

So where the hell was Uncle Ben's grave???

It makes things confusing because he's sort of referenced in CW.

I think at one point they were found that road but it’s kind of become obvious at this point that Uncle Ben is pretty much Aunt May/Tony Stark.

Unfortunately it seems as if he doesn’t exist in this world.

Uncle Ben exists. I'm pretty sure we see his initials on Peter's old suitcase, etc.

I actually like Aunt May becoming this Spider-Man's Uncle Ben.

Ok lets put it another way. If Uncle Ben exists in the MCU. He clearly isn't important to the MCU.

Now they are planning on doing an animated show that focuses on him in a year one type scenario. So maybe Uncle Ben will be apart of that. But its clear going into this movie they did not think of Uncle Ben once. He was not important at all.

There was no space left after the Arad tribute.

Pathetic that that dude puts his own name up in lights and doesn’t even mention the creators.

I thought everything that happened in the first act of the movie could've easily been the main focus/storyline of another Spider-Man film, there were many interesting things in there that could've been explored. It flowed fine for me, regardless.

That's pretty much on point. It's my biggest grievance with the new trilogy.

Some subtlety is always encouraged. I really liked Peter's introduction in Civil War. But from there on forward, and now especially as I've seen the whole trilogy, I get the distinct sense that no one creatively at charge cared genuinely about Uncle Ben. In the context of this series, he's just an obscure reference. The initials on a suitcase that's completely expendable. A disposable figure that only technically used to exist but no one ever talks about him. No one is ever shown to miss him.

This juxtaposed with how explicitly Peter was haunted by Tony's death, and a cool fun Aunt May who has a meaningless fling with Happy Hogan... it's like this Spider-man was purely designed by a savvy marketing team rather than people who are passionate about the source material.

Regarding the Statue of Liberty connection between NWH and Hawkeye show: Hawkeye’s Directors on “Sociopathic” Big Guy, No Way Home Reference – The Hollywood Reporter

After joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Bert and Bertie were treated to a top-secret, early screening of Black Widow to inform their work with Yelena, who figures prominently both in Hawkeye and that film. They were also privy to detail explored in Spider-Man: No Way Home — the fact that the Statue of Liberty is getting a makeover with a Captain America shield.

“There’s a need to know basis. Things like that, there may have been a slightly larger reference to it in the original scripts,” says Bertie of the No Way Home reference in episode five. “We love knowing that stuff."

Some of y’all gotta let Uncle Ben go!!! We had already seen him eat it twice and marvel wanted to take a different approach. The same lesson was done just as well with Aunt May.

Never :oldrazz:

Well, leaving Uncle Ben out of the criticism, May's death didn't have much if any impact on me because I never got to care about her. They leaned too much in the cool aunt direction making it appear as if she's not one bit concerned about Peter being Spider-man, gave her a dumb subplot where she briefly dates Happy Hogan for no reason, and then suddenly after 2 movies when they finally decide to get real with her it's like 5 minutes before she gets killed. Yeah, I couldn't help but feel numb to it.

So, question, how did the FBI dude who was interrogating Peter in the beginning know that Nick Fury was offworld?? Nick's disappearance is not common knowledge as far as I know especially with Talos impersonating him.

So just got back and I'm still processing everything lol. I probably won't post my full thoughts until tomorrow in the review thread. Not sure just how I would rank this but I will say, I loved it. I had such a fun time watching this in the theater. I had some minor problems here and there but overall I thought it was great.

*edit meant to post this in the general thread but oh well :oldrazz:

Was there any news blip or anything to explain why the Statue of Liberty had a giant Captain America shield? Not a mark against the movie, just curious?

Understandable but the uncle Ben deaths in SM1 and TASM were after spending less than 10 minutes of screentime with each of the characters so I know you couldn’t have gained too much of an emotional attachment to either of them either.

Andrew was always the wrong choice for a high school Peter. It was clear just looking at him that he had already grown into his manliness, thus he couldn't exactly sell the awkward teens. It hurts because he really could've been the perfect college-graduate Peter Parker. Tobey's Peter was still studying at the end of 3, so that would've been a pretty seamless transition to a "soft-reboot". He'd get an internship at the lab of his old professor Dr. Connors etc.

Anyway, I also loved Andrew in No Way Home. I'm glad that despite of everything, he still gets a lot of fanfare.
Yep. Once Andrew was cast, they really should have had him in college, working with/for Connors and that's where he meets Gwen. Could have given Connors a better backstory and actually show his family.

I hated that they didn't even bother to show May and Ben were buried next to each other

I'm okay with it a little more after this film. Especially since he learned the same thing with May and it's trending towards the Spidey we know now
