The Amazing Spider-Man Spider-Powers

How powerful should he be?

  • Lets show how powerful Spidey is - no holding back!

  • Raimi got it right. Neither stronger nor weaker

  • He's starting out - give him room to grow into them

  • Keep in grounded - just a little more than a peak human

How about his jumping?

The comics say he can jump around 5 stories high, and jump around the length of a city block (200 feet or so). In the Raimi movies, sure, he can jump, but Raimi says (which you can view in the extras of SM1) that they purposefully reduced this ability.

I'm all for showing his full strength and such but unlike the Raimi movies, I'd like it to be consistent, and that goes for his other powers too. Too often in those movies his powers seemed limited by plot convenience.

^In SM1 he did hold the trolly car full of children with one arm, while holding MJ with the other...that was pretty incredible, all things considering.

I agree, that was fine and well done. But then in SM2 we get the Ock fight and several headshots to Ock which barely do anything beyond what a person of regular strength could do. And don't give the tired old answer "well, Spidey pulls his punches" or "Ock's disabled chip made him less likely to get knocked out" as excuses. If Spidey can pull his punches that much and has that much control, then why didn't he just punch him hard enough to knock him out and not kill him? And the chip making Ock not likely to get knocked out simply makes no sense at all. I understand that they couldn't figure out how to have Spidey fighting Ock's arms alone be enough to carry the fight but then that can be attributed to a lack of ingenuity in staging fight scenes as the likely culprit.

Alot of what Spidey could and couldn't do was nothing more than a plot device in the Raimi films; i was so inconsistent, especially when it came to the spider-sense. As far as strength is concerned, i still have a problem with Spider-Man slowing down and stopping an entire train...that to me was beyond what Spidey can do and was crossing into Superman territory.

Well, it was close. I'll give you that. Now if he had actually lifted the train then that is definite Superman territory. I felt they cut it as close as possible without flagrantly going overboard with it.

Don't get me wrong, i love the train sequence but the amount of force the moving train would have generated vs the strain on his joints, as he held onto the webbing, would have torn him apart.

I think he should be pretty strong. But occasionally be able to lift really heavy thing. Like that comic with him trapped under debris and he uses all his strength and mind power to lift it. It'd be cool to see that on screen

Exactly what I was thinking!:awesome:

The scene where he is fighting those thugs who attack MJ, in the rain in SM1; his strength was nothing more than that of a well trained normal athlete in that scene.
