My current favorites are The Soul of Baseball by Joe Posnanski
Can I keep my jersey? by Paul Shirley
Moneyball by Michael Lewis

(Baseball) Teammates, The: A Portrait of a Friendship by David Halberstam is excellent.

(Hockey) Jonesy: The Improbable Career of Keith Jones by Keith Jones & John Buccigross is also a good read.

Andy Roddick Beat Me With a Frying Pan by Todd Gallagher. I have not read it, but I think this is gonna be added to my list.

The late George Plimpton also has a bunch of books about him playing sports. Climbing in the Boxing ring against Archie Moore, playing QB for the Detroit Lions, Playing goalie for the Bruins, going to Spring training, etc......

Friday Night Lights and Hoop Dreams are two excellent books and Cobb by Al Stump is a good, unflinching biography about the Georgia Peach himself.

Yeah I heard the Cobb book is warts and all. Doesn't exactly paint a great portrait.

"Never Die Easy" - Walter Payton's autobiography.

Brings me to tears every time I read it. :csad:

The only one I've ever read:

Hmmm I should track that down, I enjoyed the Cobb biopic with Tommy Lee Jones, based on "Stumpy"'s 2nd book about Cobb.

This is a good book about soccer by an excellent writer:
