I collected thousands of sports cards when I was a kid, most worth little to nothing. Some actually worth several bucks and very few worth more than $10-$20 each. But as I got older and spent more times talking to people about which ones I should buy I managed to pick up some that are worth $50 +. Of course this usually involves buying them by the boxes and spending $100+ on each one. But it's been several years since I stopped and was wondering what brands or special series are worth investing now?

Upper Deck SP? Fleer Premium autograph runs? Others that I don't even know about? Baseball, Basketball or Football? I know there isn't a huge amount of money to be made and that often the cards go down in value greatly after their release, but there has to be some cards that are worth investing into.

Can anyone fill me in that is knowledgeable in this area please?

I used to literally spend all my allowance on Basketball cards. Around 2000 I traded most of them for a stereo system. I had Webber college card, Shaq rookie, etc.

The only ones I kept are my Jordans. I have about 100 of them only one duplicate. I used to every year buy a beckett, & go through them & price how much they were all worth. Now I just keep them so I can pass them on to my son (hopefully if I stop screwing up) someday.

I just remembered the moment I lost interest in cards. I wanted to sell a Shaq card that I knew was 25 dollars. The card shop dude would only give me 5 for it. That is when I knew it was a ripoff game. I don't really know how it works now. This was back when there was no internet. I am sure you can actually a little closer to the price that it is valued.

I am completely out of the loop now when it comes to sports cards. I have kept my card collection which spans from the 70's-90's. I will probably give them away to my children when the time comes and they could appreciate them.

I lost interest when they started having several different collections, with special editions, etc.

I stuck mainly with hockey cards but I dabbled with baseball, basketball, and football.
