Superman Returns SR Sequel: $200 million or else!?

Just read that and think about how silly it sounds. You spend all your time on this board because you hate the previews?? Very lol. :woot: The smart thing to do would be to actually...umm....I dunno....maybe like....ummm SEE THE MOVIE?

Its obvious you are so biased that even if you saw the movie and liked it, you would never turn your opinion because you don't want to come off as wrong. So why even bother anymore?
Nah actually I don't like or dislike a movie based on my hating the previews. For instance I hated F4's previews and talked about how bad the movie was going to be. I won tickets to it, saw it and liked it and watch it on DVD every now and again. If I like the movie you and Robo will be the first to know and I will be eating all sorts of crow.

Mark this down and or save it.

I hear by promise that if I give Superman Returns a 8 out of 10 or over after seeing it, I will apoligize for everything (okay most things) that I have ever said about the film before seeing it.

I don't think that is exactly what he was saying.....It's hard to have any kind of equlibrium in here when starting a conversations about SR, if you can't back any of it up with more than 'the previews sucked'.

Those people stopped talking about it back in early July. We're in mid Sept. and you're still picking apart the previews....:o

25+ Million plus in the US still did see the film. I think some people are very tunneled in their vision by the incredibly un-godly numbers Spiderman and POTC2 have done recently. To be honest, that's not much of a defense on the quality....Shawshank Redemption never broke 100 Million at the BO.

I never said that only good movies make money, stop trying to put words in my mouth, I can post on any thread I want and everybody didn't love Shawshank Redemption, it is your opinion that it was a great movie that didn't make 100mil.

BTW: I'm not saying that I think that Shawshank will be a bad movie, I must get around to seeing it.

I know, bad I SEE SPIDEY, I should have watched that movie by now, I've heard great things. I've just been too lazy.:o

You know, Spider-Man or POTC2 numbers were never even uttered by me. I never thought that SR would gross that much but I atleast thought it would make it's budget back. Silly me. I predicted 275mil BTW, doesn't sound like Spider-Man numbers to me.

I predicted 250million - 280million. Ouch.

Spidey, at least do me a favor, rent it on DVD and watch it. I don't personally care if you like it or not, but you can't judge a movie by it's cover.

I said that I was going to watch it.:yay:

I think we´re gonna have a good idea of what the non-fanboy audience actually thought of Superman Returns by the time of the DVD release. of course by then the SR-hating fanboys will look for arguments left and right to call the sales disappointing if it makes anything less than record-breaking sales...

Yeah. Well we haven't had to look far at all for examples on how this film was a complete disapointment. Box office. No legs. And at least we haven't had to resort to making up stupid excuses to justify why it did so bad. Example excuse post:

http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=250733

Simply pathetic attempt. How about "4th of July weekend is a bad weekend to release a film". Do I have to go over how many films in the last ten years were released on the 4th of july weekend and went on to be in the top ten money makers or even the most money making film of that year again? It was almost pretty much all of them. "Oh Singer said there was a lack of advertisint" Yeah right. The film was fricken everywhere.

This is why I call you guys "The Excuse Crew" And before you guys get all upset with the laebel like you did "Apologists" just remember that you guys have been calling us "haters" for a year and a half and we never said a word about it. We didn't run crying to a mod about it. We did nothing.

I SEE SPIDEY always comments on something and then at the end he writes that he hasn't watched the movie.
There you guys go again. :p

I *just* saw F4 on TV for the first time a few days ago. I really enjoyed it. Entertaining and chock full of action. Didn't bog down, and the characters made me laugh. I love the interaction between Thing and Flame On (or whatever his name is.) Great stuff, and I'll be seeing the sequel in the theaters. Wished I had seen the first one on the big screen, but wasn't impressed by the trailers and thought it looked stupid. Silly me. *sigh*

...which brings me to my second point. Spidey, definitely see SR if you get the chance. Those who know me know this is not a recommendation from somebody who "enjoyed" the film by any stretch, but the pic had scenes worth seeing in the theater. I also know of one person who did a HUGE 180 in opinion *cough*OldGuy*cough* after seeing the film, so ya never know.

Being on the other side of that fence, I totally agree. That said, even if you HAVE seen the film, but also happen to reside on one side of the fence most of the time, more often than none, your opinions don't carry as much weight since you're already dubbed to be biased. It's amazing how much a sig, avatar, or username can raise a set of deflector shields faster than Lt. Sulu. ;)

Superman Returns flopped in Germany, it didnt even managed to get 500.000 people 2 watch the movie.
POTC managed 7 million people in germany, huge success.

Batman Begins managed nearly 1 million people watchin it in cinema and the DVD did very well.

The first Superman movie did ca. 4,5 million people in western germany (without the GDR).

-..so dont expect big dollars fot the international box office from germany.

See! I told the distributor to use Timmo Niesner but they just didn't listen to me.

;) J/K

If it flopped in Germany I'd really hate to see the Italy figures. Probably flopped harder there too.

Oh so you'd like to know what happpened in Italy :oldrazz: LOL :
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=2158&p=.htm
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest washed ashore its final beach over the weekend, Italy, and unearthed another record opening gross. Playing at 1,005 theaters—the widest Italian release ever—the supernatural swashbuckler claimed a massive $13.4 million in five days, more than doubling its predecessor.

Oh and here's how SR is doing in Italy :
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/intl/italy/2006/37.htm
POTC 2 , released just 5 days : $12,128,116
SR , released almost 3 weeks ago : $6,421,527

Well thats it folks it looks like SR ship has sailed at the BO both domestically and Internationally. Well at least there is the DVD sales and if it does as well as BB then we would get a sequel.

Ouch. It looks like there's no chance for 400mil. I'm sill hoping for it to reach 200 domestically though.

WTF?!? He liked it? Oh, man. I don't know how to take this. If you're kidding, Pat, this isn't funny (well, maybe a little).

I was almost certain he'd be crying for Singer's head on a stick *ducks out back to check for flying pigs*. Did he say anything about it?

Well i don't think the 400 million will be reached. However there is hope for the 200 million. But it's gonna struggle.

IS there any site like BOmojo but for DVD sales/rentals?

www.hollywoodreporter.com

I don't check it this site very often , in fact i've only checked it once or twice in like 3 months. But i do see that CS does often link to this site when it reports on the dvd and rentals charts of various movies.

Either that or just follow CS's dvd news section

Ummm yes and facts back up my comment that many more people liked PM than SR its real simple math really nearly 1 billion dollar movie vs one that is struggling to break 400 million.
What next all those people who saw PM didn't like it???? So umm why did it make nearly 1 billion dollars if it was as bad as you and him are saing it was????
Maybe because even though it had some bad parts kinda like SR it had more good parts than bad so people liked it and just because people on internet boards bash it is a joke because they are what maybe 5-10% of the movie going audience?
Just because a movie does not get criticaly accliamed does not mean people dislike it any more than if it is criticaly accliamed means people like it.
And liking movies like PM does not make people stupid as I know thats the next comment someone is going to make, It just means they like certain movies for just entertainment and no one is to judge why another person likes or dislikes a movie that is for each indivual to decide.

Now your doing exactly the same as you claim i am doing, posting your opinion as fact. Its generally known that with both fans and critics alike, TPM was a poor movie, even ****ing Ewan McGregor said as much.

I think SR will do well on DVD, just like King Kong did, people seem to have a problem watching longer movies ever since the LOTR movies came out, they tend to wait for the DVD so they can have breaks etc. Didnt KK sell the same amount of DVD's in one week that WOTW sold in 3 months? Not sure whether thats accurate but i remember hearing something like that. Anyway i think SR will make a killing on DVD.

Ummm how is me providing proof people liked PM more than SR me posting my opinion as fact?

The facts are wheter you like them or not is PM made nearly a billion dollars which means alot more people saw it than SR simple math really.

Re-read I said clearly that people who take internet polls and reviewrers are a small maybe 10% of the actual movie going audience again thats a simple fact you can check yourself if you doubt me.

So how again is this me posting my opinion as fact?

A movie does not make a billion dollars if more people dislike it than like it.

So simple facts show since it made nearly a billion dollars vs a movie that is not even at 400 million that more people liked PM than SR.

Call it my opinion if you want but its not its a simple logical conclusion.
