Superman Returns SR Sequel: $200 million or else!?

I dont want SR to make 200 M anymore because if it does it will be the slowest movie to reach 200M and that is not a good record to have.

I believe since Alan Horn said to expect a sequel in 2009, and Singer's talks with them, including the actual mentioning of the sequel, we don't have to wonder if there will be one, there will be a sequel.

The film's overall rating is positive, even from fans. I think it was just problems like too much money for the budget, adding the money spent on the previous false projects, little marketing (as Singer said), maybe the idea that it was a reintroduction while many knew what they needed thansk to Smallville. In no way does this mean this movie was a flop, it was a mid-success. And in no way should they pull the plug on something that still has legs.

^ Totally agree and good post. I really hope Singer does come back for the sequel, as i think it will be amazing.

I know we are getting a sequal but look at this...
$199,394,532
That is so close...
$190,000,000
Such a clean number

I'd just rather it made $200 million, would give the movie some face.

I don´t care how slowly it gets there, I want it to get there.

I don't understand why it matters if it makes 200million, it doesn't change anything. The studio is making no money on the film right now, the 200million number only makes it look better on paper. What matters now is the sales on the DVD.

That's pretty much why we want it to hit 200. It looks nice. ;)

That, and $200 million is the official "blockbuster" status number.

 on both points

It's the slowest "blockbuster" in the history of mankind.

Who has said 200million makes it a blockbuster? It doesn't really benefit "us" if it hits 200million. If you are going to reply and say yes, it means a sequel, that's not necessarily true. It has probably already been decided if there is going to be a sequel, if not, it depends on the DVD sales. None of us are getting any of this money.

explode7...you obviously don't know what you are talking about
here are the actual movies that took the longest to get to 200 mill.

by the time SR gets 200 mill. it will be around were T2 or beverly hills cops is

(and by taking it so long to get there it shows the movie has had some legs)

buggs0268 were do you get this info from?

they were begging first theaters to keep the film in their theaters at 75 percent of the profits, which is pretty much unheard of and shows deperation. And one theater owner told them "75 percent of nothing is still nothing".

I'm sure you know plenty of theatre owners that told you this right?:whatever:

That is deperation to reach 200 mill domestic. And about 25 mill of that figure is from the IMAX 3D showings, which were mostly a draw because it was the first movie in 3D IMAX. So, take out the novely of IMAX, and SR only made about 160-170 something mill.

1. your math isn't very good (when SR hits 200 mill.) take 200 minus 25 and you get 175 (not 160-170):whatever:

2. BB, CCF also played at the Imax so even if you take away the 3-d novelty, it still would have been playing at the Imax and made money

3. I agree the 3-d effect added some novelty to SR, but not as much as you claim. If that was the case ant bully and open season would be doing incredible #'s at the Imax, in reality they are only doing decent #'s

Well no duh. Eventually, meaning most likely with DVD revenues. And yes, Horner was taking the advertising costs into account.

And of course you can take out the money that SR made in IMAX. But that proves nothing. Despite the theaters it was in, the film has still made 199.4 million dollars. As I explained in another thread, people went and saw SR continuously in IMAX because they wanted to, not because they were forced to.

Like it or not, SR has shown tremendous legs.
Tremendous legs? You obviously don't know what that means, although it's legs aren't bad at all and are pretty decent for a summer movie, they are far from tremendous. Tremendous is opening with a little over 70mil in five days and reaching 305 million dollars.

for a film that apprently flopped,Returns keeps on going..

lkr yourself ISS it has Fantastic legs. ;)

Without IMAX's 30 some million dollars, SR is in the drink. Plain and simple. 169 domestic ( 359 WW ) without IMAX. SR has no legs ( never did ), IMAX has been it's crutch, and for a 260 million dollar movie, well the #'s speak for themselfs.

Yet 5 months later its still drawing big crowds at IMAX.:oldrazz: I'm willing to bet even if it wasn't playing there it would have drawn more people to 'normal' theaters.

A movie with 'no legs' that made 400000 dollars last week.:o

It did not cost 260 million. Stop adding on the development costs from previous incarnations.

Wow it completely dropped off overseas. That's the final tally overseas right?
