Superman Returns SR Sequel: $200 million or else!?

I didn't say that you were dumb I just said that you don't know s**t about the boxoffice and you don't, so don't be offended.:yay:

Well please go into detail about how I don't know anything about the box office. I'm not saying I'm an expert, no where close. I couldn't tell you what multipilier is or even give a good estimate as to how a film is going to do on an opening weekend. I admit that.

But I know good holds when I see them. And when a film like SR doesn't drop large for three weeks in a row, that it's a damn good hold and shows some good legs. Really, a month ago none of us would have thought SR would be this close to $200 million.

I'm not saying the film is doing spectacular, I'm not saying $200 million gross on a $204 million budget is great. I have enough common sense to tell ya that. But I also know good holds when I see them. And yes, I'm also aware that the studios only get about 55% of theatrical gross, so until SR hits DVD the film has a long way to go to make its money back.

I know you're not meaning to insult my intelligence, but please realize when you say I know "s**t" about the box office that you are indeed doing that (especially when I know the common sense elements of B.O.)

Actually its already made its budget back (not including marketing).

390million / 55% = 214million
PLUS ~22million already paid for 1 channels TV rights.

Damn good numbers. Definitely a lock for $200 million now. :)

It will prolly do around 200.5 mill before it ends its run IMO.

It's still disappointing but not as embarrassing if it breaks over $200 million.

I will say, I am impressed it is going to get passed that mark after how it started.

This may very be, the first time I have ever agreed with you vile. :woot:

The problem is, I still don't think this bodes very well for the sequel.

I'm not sure how WB would be willing to spend more on a sequel after Returns performance.

They'll be willing to spend, just not as much. Budget will probably hover around 175million, if that.

I agree. Besides, Warners knows they have Superman in the public eye now. They're gonna think long term investment with the franchise and go ahead with another flick.

They won't have to spend as much. They can re-use a lot of the same sets, costumes, and designs. They won't have to spend assloads of time doing R & D for suit concepts and flight technology. The film will be easier for them to put together, and the cost will reflect that.

Thats true, R&D ate up a lot of money i bet, that they wont have to spend this time, or at least not as much.

If Peter Jackson could make three heavy effects films with just $300 million ($100 mil. for each film), then I know Bryan Singer can pull it off with a smaller budget. Maybe they should get Weta to do their effects next time? Hmm...

If the "return to krypton scene" hadnt of been cut it prolly would have looked more like a 200 mill movie...lets just hope singer doesnt get his friends and family to see the next screening first, and he cuts stuff out again because they think its to long.

If I was his friends or family I would have asked for less Lex, no Kitty scene at the hospital, and the elimination of some other pointless scenes.

haha...yup.:woot:

As long as they make it, I´m good with it.

Just saying, they spring for a cheaper director.

Once again, sequels do NOT cost less. Especially a bigger one with MORE action that Singer supposedly has planned.

And if the second one if it does get made does similar business, I don't see the new franchise lasting beyond that.
