Superman Returns SR Sequel: $200 million or else!?

Well a lot of people here ( And I mean A LOT of people ) said there was no way in Hell it was gonna reach the $200 million mark after that first opening weekend...glad to see Supes was the little engine that could. I see SR firmly staying in the #5 spot for 2006, unless Eragon or Charlotte's Web ends up making serious money in December. But I doubt either will end up with $200 million, but ya never know. Does anyone know if there is a definite time that SR will leave IMAX? Because if it keeps playing for months it could end up with another million or maybe even two. Here's hoping. Also, now that SR has hit $200 million, we may expect a press release from Warners in Variety & the Hollywood Reporter, which may indicate where they are with the sequel, if anywhere yet.

Well, now I´d like to see the people who couldn´t disguise their glee as they guaranteed there was no way in hell it was going to make 200m... Cool

haha, you know u wont be seeing them for a while.

I'm still here. It is a miracle. Thank goodness for IMAX. All you DC fans should go to an IMAX theater and bow down.

Yeah, I know that the number is still below what WB was hoping for, but honestly, the way some people - especially certain Marvel fanboys - were clearly rooting for it to bomb was well-worth a revenge... Wait till it gets on DVD...

It also comes to show the growing importance of the IMAX/3D market for the current movie business. Movies like SR especially benefit from it.

I agree, and you just know that they will release it on even more I-max'es for the sequel.

Yeah, the only one still here is old carpy, but the rest of those dingleberries are long gone.

...Just like the fans who said that SR would make 300/D and up, I'm glad I wasn't one of them. :woot:

Congrats WB, Singer. Now get us a better sequel!!

Nice to see it made 200 mil. We shouldn't have had to wait this long. However, I suppose the audience is different these days. Let's hope the sequel news starts to roll in soon.

Damn straight. I'm gettin' real greedy now that SR has come out and that the Ultimate Collector's Edition Set is coming out in November. The next seasons of Superboy also need to come out. I'll be broke by December, and I've already made a solid start with my previous purchases!:yay:

Agreed, its a great movie that deserved to make more, but this will do. Congrats SR!!!!!!

Hey guys! :)

I for one, never thought it would hit $200 million, and if hitting $200 million gets Singer back then I have lost all hope for the franchise.

As a Superman fan I was torn between wanting the movie to do well, so we could get another Superman movie, but at the same time wanting it to do badly so that they wouldn't bring Singer back.

I really don't see how you could keep all the elements of Superman Returns and make a positive sequel? Added to which, now that the movie has hit $200 million, even though it underperformed massively, you just know that Singer & Co. will think themselves vindicated, that they'll just do their own thing, and not bother listening to the fans.

So get ready for a poor man's remake of Donner's Superman 2, with extra Lois, "Lois & Zod" might be a fitting title.

I wonder will he have Gus Gorman build Brainiac in the third movie?

You know, no offence, but I just read comments like this and think, did these people watch the same boring, unoriginal, morose, illogical, badly cast, uninspired movie that I did!?

It seems fans are always gonna be divided on this movie...maybe moreso than any other super hero movie ever, I think. I agreed with the majority of the critics that SR was a wonderful homage and updating of the Richard Donner classic....but where I see "homage", many see uninspired rip-off. And where many see "morose," I see "thoughtful". To each his own I guess.

And I won't make a Ratner joke, because everyone has made better ones already.

so by your definition..if you didn't like the movie and someone else did..we are all wrong because you thought it was boring miscast blah blah blah..

your going to fit in well.

this movie would get a sequel. there was no question about that.

but after this great news there will be a sequel in 2009:up:

I'm praying the sequel will be alot better, and I'm hoping it will have better digital double that will be used less when it doesn't need to be used. A it will have a better Superman suit, one that deosn't have a brown cape and a high neckline. I hope the sequel will also have a better story. I hope Superman says more and isn't so mean to his dog, if his dog's in the sequel :p. What was with Clark trying to ask Lois out for dinner, when she's engaged to the father of her child, at that point in the story Clark still thinks Richard is the father. Now that just makes Superman a d**k. I'm also not to keen about Superman the peeping tom and trespasser. I'd like to see less Donner rip offs too, the sequel deserves an original story not to be a remake of another Chris Reeve Superman movie. *cough* Superman II *cough*

you know i quite like the suit as is..all i think they have to do is change the colour to a brighter red and we are set.
