Has Stan Lee ever expressed any feelings on Venom, one way or another?
I honestly want to hear what Todd McFarlane (sp?) thinks of Venom in Spider-Man 3.
He did do interviews on the Venom Saga DVD...
Stan Lee said:Venom is a really great character and I'm very sorry that I didn't create Venom (stan laughs). But, the idea of a character that could take your identity and change you, I thought it was a brilliant stroke and he's proven to be a... a very popular villan.
Has Stan Lee ever expressed any feelings on Venom, one way or another?
Why should he express something towards a "character" that is totally overrated by kiddies and just a muscle steroid guy with no brain .
He is like Raimi, he likes the REAL CLASSIC VILLAINS and rightfully so, those ones were and will always be great cause they have a SOUL...
stan's just talking around the fact that he doesnt like venom. He doesnt want to admit it because venom is so popular.
Don'tcha just love it when people try and inject their bias into the opinion of somebody big to try and give their own point credibility? Stan's words cannot be interpretted in way such way that you do, that's just what you want to believe.
Want proof? Nobody asked Stan "Do you like Venom?" Thus, the positive comments that he makes about Venom are all of his own free will, and if he didn't like Venom, he just wouldn't have to say anything. Making those statements of his own free will means he obviously does like the character. And face it, aside from how he's been portrayed at times, Venom is a great character in concept at the very least.
I can't get this anti/pro Venom thing among fans. The children and the childish love Venom; they overrate him (And yes, claiming he's better than Doctor Octopus or the Green Goblin IS a stupid statement). Yet, the people who despise Venom completely underrate him because he's been portrayed poorly. He has potential to be one of Spidey's best, but no writer has ever done anything great with him. There are other Spidey villains with just as shallow an origin as Brock, but they're accepted because they're 30+ years old, yet Venom gets the shaft only because he's 20.
The way the Animated Series and the new film have portrayed him, he's a worthy Spidey villain. They actually give Brock real reasons to hate Peter, and give him some depth. Raimi would not have added him otherwise. Just because he's in the conclusion doesn't mean he was an afterthought, not when the plot builds up to him.
