Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard details, ‘Let’s Back Up the Squadron’ trailer

Published 14 hours ago. 42 comments.
Six-minute trailer provides overview of upcoming Star Fox games.

Star-Fox-Zero_04-05-16.jpg

Nintendo has released a new set of details, screenshots, and a trailer for its upcoming Wii U games Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard.

Get the information below.
Star Fox Zero

In the action-packed universe of Star Fox Zero, the TV displays a cinematic view from behind the Arwing while the Wii U GamePad puts players straight into the gunner’s seat, complete with immersive audio and intuitive motion controls for pinpoint aiming.

A range of training missions help new recruits to master the game’s unique two-screen gameplay, and as their skills improve, players can return to these training missions to rack up better scores, then take what they’ve learned into the main game to discover new areas and beat their previous best performances.

As players progress through the game they’ll be able to return to earlier missions to find hidden collectibles and alternative routes that offer brand new challenges.

For instance, the standard route through the bioweapon-filled planet Fortuna ends with a climactic battle against the imposing Monarch Dodora, but after clearing a certain story mission, confident pilots can return to Fortuna and choose to branch off in pursuit of Star Wolf instead. With multiple paths through the game bringing new challenges and surprises, there’s one to suit every skill level and play style.

Pilots up for an even fiercer challenge can tap in their Falco amiibo to unlock the Black Arwing, which has more powerful weapons but weaker defences, making it a potent but fragile weapon. Tapping the Fox amiibo unlocks a retro Arwing styled after the original Super NES Star Fox game, complete with retro music, to be used in the first Corneria stage.

Star Fox Guard

Launching alongside Star Fox Zero is the companion game Star Fox Guard, which puts players in the ultimate security guard job – defending mining sites against waves of robot invaders. The TV screen displays a bank of 12 surveillance camera feeds, each monitoring a different part of the mining site, and it’s up to players to switch between cameras to spot enemies and blast them before they reach the central tower It’ll take supreme awareness and multi-tasking skills to fend off the relentless robot approach, so it helps to have friends on-hand to call out camera numbers that show approaching enemies.

Help is also on hand via the Fox and Falco amiibo, which can each be tapped once per day to call in team Star Fox for a powerful air strike that destroys attacking robots.

Successfully clearing missions bestows rare metals, which count towards unlocking additional missions and cameras with special abilities, like slowing enemies down or freezing them in place, adding another layer of strategy to the action.

My Squad mode also lets keen tacticians create and upload their own enemy attack patterns to challenge others around the world, or take on other players’ best efforts. Meanwhile, the Star Strategists feature is updated every day to offer a popular challenge from across the globe.

Fans who purchase Star Fox Zero can get a taste of Star Fox Guard’s strategic action with an exclusive downloadable demo, only accessible though the main menu of Star Fox Zero. Save data can be carried over to the full version, so tacticians can pick up where they left off.

From April 22, Wii U owners can pick up Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard in a limited First Print edition including both games on separate Game Discs, and an exclusive SteelBook case. This package is the only way to get a physical copy of Star Fox Guard, so collectors won’t want to miss out. Star Fox Guard will also be available as a download code at retail.
Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard are due out for Wii U on April 22 in North America and Europe.

Star Fox Zero Footage Analyzes The Game’s Frame Rate. April 11, 2016 . 8:30am

In a new video by Digital Foundry, we get a look at an analysis of Star Fox Zero‘s frame rate, and if it met Nintendo and PlatinumGames’ target goal of 60 frames per second.
[YT]pNdQBY60Ru8[/YT]

Unfortunately, the game struggles to maintain that target of 60 FPS. In the video, we get to see footage of both the Corneria and Sector Alpha stages, in which the FPS fall to 50 and sometimes even 40 respectively.

This loss of frame rate can be blamed on the simple fact that Star Fox Zero is outputting to two different devices: a TV and the Wii U GamePad.

Star Fox Zero is scheduled to release on April 21st in Japan and worldwide on April 22nd for the Wii U.

See How amiibo Work In Star Fox Guard. April 12, 2016 . 10:00am

See the team perform an air strike to defend the mining operation after an amiibo is scanned in Star Fox Guard in new footage from GameXplain.

7 Thoughts Read>

[YT]4g0T0T593zo[/YT]
Star Fox Zero isn’t the only Star Fox Nintendo Wii U game with amiibo compatibility. People playing Star Fox Guard can summon tap the Fox or Falco amiibo to the GamePad for assistance as well. GameXplain has shared a two and a half minute video going over what amiibo do for players when scanned into Star Fox Guard.

To use an amiibo in Star Fox Guard, you must scan it on the Nintendo Wii U GamePad before a mission begins. The game will recognize it and allow you to call upon the Star Fox team for support in that one mission. If you begin to get overwhelmed, you can call upon Star Fox and his team for an air strike. You’ll hear a familiar fanfare, see the Star Fox logo on the side of an Arwing, and the screen will shift to show the four heroes in the air. Fox will say, “This is Star Fox. Responding to your distress signal.” They’ll then swoop over the map and destroy every robot. This can be done once each day.

Star Fox Guard will be released on April 22, 2016. It will be available digitally in the Nintendo eShop. The only way to get a physical copy is to purchase the limited First Print edition of Star Fox Zero at launch, as it includes Star Fox Guard.

Didn't realize that reviews had already started to come out in till a few minutes ago and I just saw the game is average a 72 on metricitc. That surprise me and is disappointing because the game looks great and I thought it would get like a 80. But gamespot did give it a 7 and they give like ever thing low scores so a 7 on there is more like a game getting a 8 lol.

EP Daily Rundown for July 4, 2016

Happy fourth of July to all our fans in the US! Today, we celebrate independence with early details on a new Diablo game and the latest on Overwatch. We also get gory with Total War: Warhammer, wreck-it with new sequels from Disney. have an early look at the new season of Samurai Jack, get a post-mortem from Nintendo on Star Fox Zero, and finally, get scientific with the cool new Jupiter mission from NASA!

Blizzard hasn’t finished looting the darkest depths of hell. The studio has revealed that it’s working on an all-new Diablo project. That’s according to a recent job posting on their official website, which is looking for a game director to work on an unannounced Diablo title. The job posting claims that the new Diablo project will be a AAA game with a large development team that “leads the Diablo series into the future.” This could mean just another Diablo 3 expansion, or an all-new game like Diablo 4. The posting requests applicants have experience with “online games, action games, and/or role-playing games,” which indicates that the new Diablo project, whatever it is, will be in the same action-RPG genre as the previous games in the series. Given Blizzard’s lengthy development cycles, we’ll probably have to wait a while to find out more about the new project. It’s not surprising that Blizzard is looking for a new game director to lead the Diablo series; Diablo 3 game director Josh Mosqueira recently left the company after joining the team in 2011.

In other news from Blizzard, the studio’s most recent game Overwatch finally has a long-awaited feature on all platforms. The ranked competitive multiplayer mode is now available on both the Xbox One and PS4, following its release on the PC last month. This is one of the most requested features for the game. Ranked competitive modes are basically a more intense version of normal PvP based around a system of divisions and tiers, and players love them because you can rank up faster and collect more rewards than normal. Now that competitive play is out on all platforms, Blizzard can concentrate on new modes, characters, and other updates for Overwatch. Expect to see more in the coming months.

The Warhammer universe is getting a healthy dose of good ol’ fashioned blood and gore. The new Blood for the Blood God DLC is now available for Total War: Warhammer. It costs $3.29 CDN and makes the game a lot more violent, adding new, M-rated effects like blood spurts and limb and head dismemberment, along with a much more ravenous version of the game’s giant. This DLC actually raises the game’s age rating in most territories, and this isn’t the first time the developers have done this; blood and gore DLC is a staple of the Total War franchise, with many of the previous games splattering players with similar updates after launch.
Disney wants to keep wrecking it at the box office. The video game-inspired animated movie Wreck-It Ralph is officially getting a sequel, set to smash theatres on March 9, 2018. According to director Rich Moore, this time around, Ralph will bring his wrecking havoc to online gaming, which means audiences can expect to see plenty of references to modern video games alongside the classic arcade characters that populated the first film. Fans of the first movie are sure to be happy that a sequel is in development; Disney had hinted that they were working on one, but this is the first official confirmation that it’s on the way.

And speaking of animated follow ups, the best animated samurai on television is wandering back to the airwaves. The Cartoon Network has released the first behind the scenes footage for their upcoming fifth season of Samurai Jack. The animated chanbara series ended its run on television back in 2004, but the lasting popularity of the show and fan demand prompted the network to make more. The same creative team is back, and rather than pick up just after the events of Season 4, the new season will take place 12 years later, with an older and more jaded version of Jack continuing his quest to destroy the demon Aku. Since the fifth season is being made today, it will use a more modern digital animation process, although the team is doing everything they can to make sure it has the same look and feel of the hand-drawn original. The other big change is that the fifth season will air on Adult Swim, which means there will be more samurai-appropriate levels of violence and mature subject matter. The fifth season of Samurai Jack will begin later this year.

Nintendo thinks you should give a certain Wii U game another chance. When asked by Game Informer what the most under appreciated Wii U game is, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto named Star Fox Zero. It received mostly negative reviews due largely to its forced motion controls, which can only be partially disabled, and many players said they’d rather have a more traditional control option like the classic Star Fox games. Miyamoto says that if players approach Star Fox Zero without those preconceived notions, they’d like it a lot more. What do you think? Were players too hard on Star Fox Zero, or is Nintendo to blame for not giving you the option to disable the motion controls completely? Let us know in the comments below.

Miyamoto thinks that another Wii U-exclusive, Pikmin 3, was also underappreciated. He says that it’s the kind of game you have to play a few times in order to get the full effect, but most players don’t have time to let games sink in anymore. He adds that gamers are becoming consumable products that players beat and move on, so it’s harder and harder for games like Pikmin 3 to find an audience. Nintendo doesn’t have much time to dwell on the failures of the Wii U; they’re already working on their next console, codenamed the NX, due early next year.

The biggest planet in the Solar System is about to reveal its secrets. NASA’s Juno spacecraft is scheduled to enter orbit around Jupiter tonight at around 9:00 PDT. The probe was launched back in 2011, and although there have been several probes that flew by Jupiter, this will only be the second one in human history to actually enter orbit.

It will study the atmosphere and environmental conditions of the gas giant, sending back more data than we’ve ever had, including how much water there is in the atmosphere. Juno will also let us know for the first time if Jupiter has a solid core; we’re still not sure if there’s rock under all that cloud, or if the whole thing is just a giant ball of gas held together by gravity. As with every space mission, there’s a chance that the probe will burn up when it tries to enter orbit, so its five-year journey may end up being for nothing. If you want to be on the edge of your seat and watch the orbital insertion unfold live, click here to watch the official live-stream from NASA’s mission headquarters. The stream begins tonight at 7:30 PDT. ,

Cheapest Xenoblade Chronicles X, Bloodborne for Black Friday in July. July 21, 2016 . 4:00pm

Best Buy is running a Black Friday in July sale with some actual good deals on Wii U games such as Xenoblades Chronicles and Star Fox Zero for only $30.

11 comments Read >

zzzpuppets.jpg

Apparently Best Buy isn’t content with having just one Black Friday sale a year. Nope, they’re now hosting one tomorrow titled the Black Friday in July sale. However, just like the real Black Friday sales, the deals have already started on Thursday (today) as part of an Early Access for all “My Best Buy” members.

Just login with a My Best Buy membership account (or create a free one) and you’ll find some of the best video game prices for Summer 2016.

What’s really striking are the handful of Wii U game discounts that rarely go on sale. We’re are now seeing new lows on Xenoblade Chronicles X, Yoshi’s Wolly World, Star Fox Zero, all with a drop to $29.99. You’ll even get a further 20% off if you’re a paid member of Best Buy’s Gamers Club Unlocked program, dropping the $30 titles to only $24 in price. Other platform picks would be Bloodborne or Until Dawn for PS4 at only $14.99 – or $11.99 if you have GCU.

In other noteworthy deal news this week there are some decent console hardware on sale, plus PC game Summer Sale deals (which we mentioned briefly earlier this week). The console hardware deals are almost exclusively tied to eBay with a “White Box” but brand new PS4 selling for $303, or a refurbished White Wii U Deluxe + 2 games for $225. On the PC front Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is cheapest ever with a drop to $17 while this week’s release of I Am Setsuna is 20% off at GMG.

Game deals brought to you by the crew at Dealzon. Disclaimer: sales from certain retailer help support Siliconera.
