Star Trek Sequel

The Enterprise looks great on the outside, but rather strange on the inside. Tons of wasted space, and engineering looks like a 21st century brewery for some reason.

When I was a kid I had one of those Star Trek 'photo-novels' of that story they are kickstarting the comics with.

Also, on a sidenote about ST books, I always thought it was funny how Leonard Nimoy brought out two autobiographies over the course of his career, the first one was called 'I am not Spock' and the second was called 'I Am Spock'.
A few years ago I happened to buy the one called 'I Am Spock'.

My first shot's in the can. More info about the film as it's released. No big secrets, just respecting the production. Fantastic script tho.

No idea what film he's talking about. Presumably not the Star Trek sequel. Speaking of which...

Please be patient about the next Star Trek. No one's twiddling their thumbs. These things take a little prep. Warp speed ain't always apt.

Breaking News You Should Have Already Figured Out – Star Trek 2 Not Hitting June 2012

At the rate things were going with proposed start-dates (of which we got a few) coming and going with nothing happening mixed together with no firm commitment on J.J. Abrams' return to the director's chair and frequent, non-committal "We're still working on the story" updates from Alex Kurtzman, Damon Lindelof and Roberto Orci, Star Trek 2 wasn't going to make its June 29, 2012 release date.

So if you're surprised to hear Paramount is slotting its G.I. Joe sequel (now titled G.I. Joe: Retaliation instead of the deliciously-cheesy Cobra Strikes) there instead, you really shouldn't be. Nevertheless, "TOLDJA" says the options on the U.S.S. Enterprise have been exercised, which is a fancier way of saying Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and the rest are coming back. Not that that was ever in doubt.

Meanwhile, Abrams himself is "moving toward a commitment to direct" and a new start-date (Here we go again...) aiming around January with a new release date either towards Christmas 2012 or summer 2013. Most likely outcome will be the latter and Paramount beaming it into theaters around the July 4th weekend.

Loved Star Trek, can't wait for its sequel, yadda, yadda, yadda. We've all heard this before. Can we finally get things going on Star Trek 2 for real now?

How G.I. Joe gets a sequel before the superior Star Trek is something we will never know

It's easy - no one at the studio gives a s*** about G.I. Joe, so they're not even bothering to take the time to make it good. People actually care about Star Trek.

I'm surprised that Abrams and Paramount taking so damn long to roll out Trek 2. C'mon, is it really THAT difficult to write a script for it? There are so many stories they can use, either reimagining of the classic stories or even brand new ones, that I can think of just on top of my head. And taking another 2 years to finally get the sequel into the theatre will be a risk, given moviegoers' tendency to drift off to new & better things. If Abrams has a problem to direct the sequel, Paramount should've given the task to another director; it's not like he's the only one who can get the job done in Hollywood.

But any movie being spent on hiring new actors & actresses on G.I. Joe could go towards Star Trek. That is the only down fall

JJ was working with Spielberg. i understand it.

Anything being done on GI Joe does not affect Star Trek, Paramount is a big studio that knows how to manage potential franchises.

Wrong, they don't release movies that they don't care about in that spot, that's arguably their more successful release date.

The only vibe I'm getting from Abrams these days is that he's not all that excited to get back into this franchise...seriously. This better not be IM2 all over again.

By the time they have a script ready, Paramount is going to want a reboot with younger actors.

GET THE BALL MOVING AND FINISH THE DAMN SCRIPT. WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG?

:cmad:

Ya does seem like a really long time for this to get off the ground. Hopefully the wait will be worth it, well it better be. If the sequel is a success I just hope that a third film wont take as long.

Orci and Kurtzman actually had a story last summer and have been reportedly working on the script since October. A detailed outline was completed at the end of May, so they definitely know what the story is. I would be surprised if they hadn't finished the script by now. The delay has really been due to Abrams working on Super 8.

Well, Abrams wanted to do his pet project first before tackling a ST sequel. I'd rather have Abrams take his time between projects rather than rush into another movie. Besides, I don't think he'll fully commit to ST2 until he sees a completed script.

And I don't hear a lot of people complaining about a four-year gap between Nolan's second Batman movie and the third one. Don't see why people are complaining about Abrams doing the same thing. In addition to that, the writers were off doing Cowboys & Aliens and Promethus respectively. It wasn't like Abrams were just lying around waiting for the perfect story to pop up in their heads.

I was talking about quality. They know it'll make money no matter what kind of crappy rush job they put out. With Star Trek, they have an iconic franchise to uphold or tarnish, so they're more inclined to handle with care.
