Star Wars Visions (Anime Anthology)

Have done the first 5.

- Sith: Beautiful, haunting, and what kick ass hair. The more abstract episodes really take advantage of the possbilities when it comes to setting and tech. I love, love, love the ship here.

- Screecher's Reach: This one almost sent me into depression. This season has a lock down on adorable kids, and it starts here. A proper horror story, with an ending that had me thinking about it all day.

- In the Stars: Again with the adorable. This one does a great job of capturing the solidary of the light side of of the Force, as opposed to the loneliness of the dark side with Reach. I don't want to just saying, "wow this art is awesome", but it all really is. I think the selection of voice actors going more with the studios locations was a brilliant idea.

- I Am Your Mother: I'm a sucker for Aardman, and this was no different. The lightness here was necessary and I chuckled more then a few times, while my brother belly laughed throughout.

- Journey to the Dark Head: The episode this season that will get a lot of, "they should make this one into something". And I wouldn't complain. At it's heart Star Wars can be so simple, especially when it comes to the Jedi and Sith. And yet, that never stops it from being compelling. I could watch blue and red fight for all eternity, and Mir knows how make it look good.

Overall so far, I think it's a much stronger set then volume 1. I think the variety helps makes each episode feel fresh and a joy. My favorite so far has probably been Reach, but I've loved them all.

Yeah, Screecher's Reach was really haunting. The way they drew the being in the caves right through to the ominous ending, some really incredible visual work from Cartoon Saloon. That's not even mentioning the phenomenal opening shot of the facility that conveyed everything you needed to know in seconds.

I'm watching it first thing this Saturday morning. I cannot WAIT!

But I'm glad to see you guys thought it was much better than Season 1.

I thought Season 1 was ok, but IMO there were only two memorable episodes: The 9th Jedi and
the Elder.

Oh, an episode that doesn’t revolve around a potential force user, someone using a lightsaber, Kyber crystals, etc? That’s refreshing.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the last two seasons, but I’m just saying there was definitely a trend. Season two mixed it up a bit more, but there was definitely a lot of “This person has great potential in the Force”, “This person’s good with a lightsaber”, “This particular situation/thing/place is in someway related to The Force and/or the Jedi”. Nice to see them break away from that and try something different.

I don’t know, maybe I’m just projecting my own feelings of what’s going on in the real world concerning the use of religion to justify prejudice and doing terrible things that’s making me tired of seeing Jedi in media.

Excited for this, though! Always love to see when Star Wars branches off into other things and experiments a bit!

I mean, Vol 1 was Japanese studios. Yeah, they were going to use a lot of lightsabers. And I don't know, when the stated goal of Visions is for the chosen studios to inject their culture into their shorts, I don't think you can fully escape The Force, the mystical and spiritual thing of Star Wars.

It does look like Jedi are less the focus of Vol 3. Other than the 3 sequels, I think there was only one that focused on the force.

The Duel, The Village Bride, and The Ninth Jedi are getting sequels in Vol 3.

Oooh, nice! Those were some of my favorites, so I don’t mind those! Yesss!!!! :woo::woo::woo::jd::jd::jd:

And when I said that I didn’t want as much focus on Jedi and Lightsabers, I wasn’t didn’t meaning to say that I hate that stuff. I would just like to see a little more variety in terms of the subject matter and focus.

I did see that there was going to be an episode focused solely on a Stormtrooper on the brink of defeat, so that’s already fulfilling my wish. I’m really excited to see how that one’s gonna play out! Sure, f**k the Empire and f**k Nazis and fascism, but, objectively, coming from a place of not supporting those things at all, I’m just intrigued.

It is coming from a Japanese studio, which has divergent viewpoints.

Anyway, Black, Yuko's Treasure, The Smuggler, The Bounty Hunters, and The Song of 4 Wings look like less force heavy.

That was the one I was talking about.

There is also a sizzle reel that was released on YouTube. I’m not sure about posting it here because I don’t know if it’s online legally, but it’s there to watch.

Yeah, I would wait for the official one to drop, since I'm unsure how long the ones they cut from the stream will stay up.
