Looks pretty cool. $20.95 is a lot of money for a big sheet of glossy paper, though.

I went to Wal-Mart to pick up AoT yesterday, but they didn't have it. I thought it was supposed to be released all over the USA yesterday. :(

I rented AOT at Blockbuster yeseterday, I liked it..I don't go to Wal-Mart, they are scumbags

They had it the cheapest out of all the stores I looked at. I wanted to buy it rather than rent because supposedly sales on AoT and Continuum are primary factors in determining whether future SG-1 movies get made.

I'm sure....realistically though, I see maybe 1 or 2 more films getting made....it had a nice 10 year run, I consider the films a bonus

Yeah, but the more the better. RDA might even take more of a role in future films if they're just films, as opposed to the long-term, ongoing commitment of TV.

So I picked up AOT at target on my way home yesterday and then watched it first thing. I enjoyed it, I mean sure it could have been better, but I thought it was very good. The only thing that I can say bothered me was
the Marrick guy, oh man I didn't like him at any point in the whole thing. Just that whole character seemed really unnecessary to me. Other than that I really enjoyed it.
It was also kind of cool that they put the Comic-Con panel on as an extra, because I was totally there, but it was still interesting to see again. I didn't get through the whole thing yet but I was totally trying to find myself in the audience.

I bought AoT yesterday at Best Buy for $17.95, and as a SG-1 fan I thought it very good, not great, but very enjoyable, a nice addition to my SG-1 collection, I also picked the last season I needed of SG-1 to complete my collection, season 7, they were selling all the seasons for $25.00, couldn't pass that up.
I'm looking forward to the second film in August.

Season 7 was, ironically, the very first season I picked up when I started buying the SG-1 season sets. :)

I was at the Stargate panel at comic con they did a dual panel with SG-1 and Atlantis......its in the special features on AOT disk....one of the best panels at the Con

I finally got AoT. Good stuff. I'll spoilerfy my review, even though I'm not really talking about any major spoilers, for the benefit of our international friends who haven't gotten the DVD yet.

The story was kind of bland and typical, but I thought the team had a lot more chemistry this time around. Browder finally seems comfortable in his role and that translates into Mitchell finally feeling somewhat competent and having a place in SG-1, rather than being kind of a goofy, fanboy tag-along. Maybe the reason the team gels so well this time around is that this felt less like The Daniel Jackson Show, which SG-1 had basically become by about 3 episodes into season 9. The team feels like a team, and it's a vast improvement over the awkward, uneven dynamic that they'd settled into in their last two seasons.

The real gem of The Ark of Truth, in my opinion, were the special effects. The entire special effects team--from CG artists to stuntmen to fight choreographers--knocked AoT out of the park. Both Stargate series have always had pretty impressive special effects for their budget; with the increase in budget for AoT, they've gone above and beyond even their own impressive standard. My favorite part of the movie was definitely the Mitchell/Repli-Marrick fight. That was amazing from start to finish. Adria's fire effects were also pretty awesome. Basically, everything looked great and, for the most part, seamless. Excellent effects work.

Anyway, even though the story wasn't that great, there's something really familiar and comfortable about SG-1 at this point. Watching new SG-1 material is like finding your favorite pair of shoes again--they're perfectly worn in and exactly what you'd expect, and there's something gratifying about that.

That said, I'm looking forward to Continuum a lot now that the Ori storyline is fully over with.

"Ghost In the Machine"

Glad Fran is back. Sounds like the replicators have found a way to turn into energy/ digital ascension and be anywhere

Koracen, a Replicator scientist on Weir's ship, believes he has found a way to reach a digital equivalent of ascension. Their consciousnesses will be enabled to exist indefinitely as fields of energy. As such beings they can essentially upload their minds to subspace and let their nanite bodies disintegrate, allowing them to move freely about the galaxy at will.

isn't the ZPM made of subspace material or was that a self contained subspace?

AOT was good, but they had to ruin it by putting trailers for AVPR and that crappy Uwe Boll movie on the DVD.

here's the question for atlantis, really the whole reason for going there in the first place: Have they not found out how ZPM were manufactured yet or what? Of all the information stored in the city's computer, would that not be the most important thing to find (other than actual charged ZPMs of course)?

ps. it would seem utterly illogical for the city not to contain the means to charging, or creating new batteries

Superfreak- the database is in Lantian/Ancient. firstly they have to translate the database beofre they can go looking for anything to do with ZPMs and the like.

Anyway... AoT just aired on Skyone!

MAJOR BLOOMING SPOILERS FOR AoT!
Loved-
The lighting. Normally the episodes are quite light and airy in the SGC and on the ships. In AoT it looked as though they've not paid all their electricity bills.... and it looked great!

The CGI. While the CGI in the show is top nothc the movies effects were a couple of steps above that. Loved the Skeletal Repicator and the effect around Adria.

so that's what they've been doing all this time... waiting while the bloody thing translates, and keeping themselves occupied in the mean time?

Who do you think is translating it? They aren't just sitting around twiddeling thier thumbs. They have a load of people going through the data base translating it bit by bit....

Or at least thats how i see it.

I just think it's a terrible oversight on the parts of the prod team. You know, like that episode with Rodney and his sister trying to recharge the ZPM. I never understood why he just didn't look at the instructions. For pete's sake, he could go into the hologram room, and just ask the city how to recharge the thing. There's probably a ZPM gas station in the city, they just haven't discovered it yet.

not to be the killjoy but don't they ask you nicely not to record stuff in convention panels?....they have a zero tolerance with that in San Diego....I saw people get kicked out of panels for recording footage....
