Starship Troopers.

The Question said:
I liked it. Great movie. However, I'm mildly weirded out by watching it ever since I learned that the guy who wrote the book that the film was based on was a neo nazi, and the bugs were meant to represent the jews. :(

Robert Heinlein wasn't a neo-nazi (where'd you hear such a thing?).

Some have, however, claimed that the Terran Federation seems a lot like a fascist society (like the nazi germany), while calling the arachnids "Bugs" could be compared to "gooks" or somesuch... but personally I think it's pretty damn thin (especially the whole "bugs" thing).

Heinlein also wrote a lot of stuff that was obviously against racism in terms of metaphores and whatnot, so I don't really think the allegations are worth all that much.

As for the movie, I thought it was okay... good ol' Verhoeven satire sprinkled across it... but it could've been a lot better.

Great movie with some really great undertones which are presented on-screen in various viewpoints that can be interpreted.

Underrated film.

I own both this and the sequel on DVD.

The sequel is just horrible

I bought Starship Troopers for a class, and expected to be miserable while watching it. I was actually pretty entertained though, and not too embarrassed to own such a film. It's just good fairly mindless fun.

...but I have to say, I'm not sure why it's in the front row of my collection. It's entertaining, but it's not front row material.

I never saw it, but 9/10 times, DTV sequels are terrible.

The first film was just awesome. I loved it and have it on DVD. Saw it 3-4 times in the theatre. The sequel just plain sucked and hopefully the talk of a real follow up will happen either on the big screen or in a quality TV series. See poll in my sig.
