Starz Original Series SPARTACUS: Blood and Sand

Glad to know Andy's doing better. The prequel sounds interesting. What title could they give it?

^Maybe "The Rise of the House of Batiatus".

I love Ashur for the shrewd dog that he is. I also would love to see why Crixus maims him.

I would rather they leave Spartacus out completely until the last episode. When things are looking really bad for House Batiatus and Batiatus pins his future on a certain Thracian slave.

Well we know how that worked out. lol

I would like to see if Crixus had to be broken like Spartacus. I always felt that is why he was so hard on him at first, because if he fell, then dammit, Spartacus had to fold as well.

I don't think they'll show too much of Spartacus. I think they'll just show him right before and after Batiatus bought him.

The press release said he would be shown only briefly.

I for one would love to see more of Spartacus when he was still in the village living with his wife, because I think his wife is not only hot, but also severely underused in the series. I hope in the prequel, we will get to see more of her.

I'm glad to hear that Andy is doing well with the treatment.

Great news about the prequel and on Andy's recovery. :) Looking forward to seeing this show on the air again. :D

I think it'll be interesting to see how he got that way, so it would be awesome if they show some of his story and how he and Crixus got to hate each other so much....

Good point. That would be nice to see, it would explain a lot.

Personally, I don't think I want to see any of that and I don't think that's in the plan.

Since this story is going to emphasize Batiatus and Lucretia, I think it will be unlikely to show Spartacus except until he gets sent into Senator Albinius' home for that party the night before he was supposed to be executed.

Maybe also a little bit after too...

The one article said he would be in only two episodes, so maybe the one would be before the execution, one afterwards when he was put into the possession of Batiatus.

Hey guys, I finished watching the first season. I had many doubts after the premiere, but this series really got better as it went on. It matured and evolved and it got me hooked. So I can honestly say I was wrong about it. I am looking forward to future Spartacus. I've read about the historical figure, so I know they have a lot of potential for future storylines. Too bad about Varro, though.

To be honest, I didn't have high hopes after the first episode, but I saw the potential there for the show to improve so I watched the second episode and I couldn't believe how much I liked it.

I knew about Spartacus a little bit, enough to know that we don't know anything much about his career as a Gladiator, so I watched partly out of curiosity too: I wanted to see where they were going.

I am amazed how my largely idle curiosity turned into a rabid fanishness. It hit me harder than I expected...

Each episode was better than the last and I think I fell in love with the show for two reasons:

  1. The writing is probably some of the best on TV.

I think that it's true for a variety of reasons, but mostly because I cannot guess at the outcome. The show is as unpredictable as Spartacus is and I adore the writers for that.

The best part about that unpredictability is that whenever they take a left when I'd expected a right, it still makes sense. There's nothing coming out of nowhere that is unmotivated. Even when I didn't see it coming, like what Batiatus did to Solonious, it still makes so much sense for the character to do what they'd done. The show is brilliant in terms of writing. Not sure I've ever seen better.

  2. Andy Whitfield's portrayal of Spartacus.

He has moments where he probably should have done something different and I didn't quite buy whatever it was, but for the most part his portayal has been amazing. So passionate and at times so raw... He's been brilliant. Can't believe he hasn't been acting long.

Cool man!

Just finished the episode "Shadow Games", and the show is really picking up speed and every subsequent episode keeps getting better and better. Unfortunately, I accidentally read the spoiler for episode #7 "Great and Unfortunate Things", so I won't get the kind of impact the uninitiated will feel after watching it, but I'm sure the story will still keep me riveted nevertheless.

well, it's no more of a spoiler if you seen the old Kirk Douglas movie. I can say if your just up to 'Shadow Games', you have many other pleasing episodes to come since they stay at at least that quality till the end.

I actually never seen that old Kirk Douglas movie, even though I heard about it. However, I don't think the spoiler will distract me from enjoying this series, and I'm very looking forward to that sexy slave that Spartacus will hook up later. :o

if you ever check out the Kirk Douglas Spartacus movie, think of Braveheart. Mel was pretty heavily inspired by it. And so far, S:B&S does not resemble the story very much, if at all. Historically, not much is known about Spartacus, Crixus, & the others till the revolt.

I think this ambiguity gives the show some reflexibility, like allowing them to introduce characters that don't show up in the history book.

Btw, I almost finished with "Delicate Things" and I really love that bath scene. :awesome: That female slave with Batiatus was especially :wow:.

Although I hope Spartacus will go on for several seasons, however eventually the series will end and when that happens, I do hope they will tackle another Roman story in the same style as Spartacus. Perhaps they can make one on Marc Anthony and Cleopatra, even though Rome did it already.

^ Cool, thanks for the info! Although I'll likely be done watching the entire season before the DVD comes out, I do want to check out all the extra footages. Since I have a Blu-ray, perhaps I should get it in this format instead of DVD. One think I hope they will have in the behind-the-scene look is interview with the cast; I'm interested to know what they think about this series and the characters they portrayed.

If you have a blu ray player why wouldn't you get the blu ray version instead of the regular DVD version?

Oh, and it's been confirmed that the blu ray will be in 1080p, not 1080i.

Can't wait for this....REALLY can't wait for the prequel, and REALLY REALLY can't wait for season 2.

This show is great, but $71 for 12 episodes on Blu-Ray is madness. :argh: Frikkin' highway robbery... :(

Maybe if your dumb and don't have any braincells to spare then yea i can understand it is unpredictable.

obviously you have never seen true blood or BSG...but if you think this "show" is unpredictable then those shows will be to difficult for you to understand.

This monstrosity of a show is for wankers!!

You know, you would certainly look a lot smarter if you insulted me while using good grammar.

If you don't like the show fine, people disagree, but I've seen True Blood and BSG and I still think this is the best written show on TV.

You are, of course, free to disagree, but please don't turn any arguments into personal attacks. It's just a TV show.

It's not worth losing your cool about it if people disagree with you.

You know that is just the original manufacturer suggested retail price.

Retailers will certainly have deals or specials on it later. Usually Amazon and Best Buy undercut the MSRP by at least 15 percent, or more.
